Just wondering how educated, or uneducated everybody here is. HS, GED, 2-year degree, 4, etc...?
Got the whole college thing coming up fairly soon, and I'm debating on whether I should actually go or not... |
id be less apt to lie if it was an anonymous poll ;-)

Masters degree in engineering from University of Illinois...ran a stock brokerage twenty years and sold and retired. got bit by the porn bug.
Go to college, it really isn't about what your learn...but I'd say it gives you good preparation in HOW to learn and apply the things in an organized fashion. Plus, you get drunk alot, get laid alot and they are the most carefree years of your life....fuck, you have the rest of your life to work...get our there pass your classes, drink some beer, smoke some dope and get laid every chance you get. Hint: Check out the male:female ratio at the college you are going to attend. Teacher oriented schools are loaded with women...engineering schools are loaded with men... |
Dude, if you don't know what you wanna do go to college & have fun figuring it out. I went to college but I was drafted out of school my sophmore year to take the highest position in the country in the field I was studying for. Go figure. I had already been working in that same field in my hometown for years prior starting as an intern and moving up all thru high school.
If you know what you wanna do start doing it now on some level. College may or may not help you but having experience does everytime! |
I graduated with a BS in Computer Information Systems in May. While I was getting my degree, I was also working full-time on my porn business as well....yes, you can do both at the same time, lol. College is pretty easy once you get the hang of it--just get the degree as your back-up plan, even if you do plan on making your money in porn. I had the art of "doing as little as possible and still managing to get straight A's" down to a science, lol.
I plan on getting my Masters in Anthropology within the next few years....that will strictly be a "fun" degree though. I looooove everything about anthropology (except for the crappy salary anthropologists earn....no thanks, I'll be sticking to porn for that part!) :) Cassie |
I dont know the exact English name:
Master in Finance and Capital Markets. you have an adult venture and a need for more money, let me know! ;)) |

|
B.S Computer Science minor Mathematics. Spent the best 4 1/2 years of my life chasing women and getting a degree that I thought would lead to a profitable programming career.

Some good advice... for a young person.

I barely made it through High School. It bored me to tears and I cut most of the time. No college. However, all those days I didn't attend HS I wasn't out goofing off or smoking weed. I was in the public library getting a real education.
After HS I got a job taking calls for an IT helpdesk and over the course of 4-5 years worked and educated myself into progressively higher positions of responsibility. I ended up as the network manager for a well known luxury goods company, a job which I quit after my adult business started to make some real money. So I think my slightly unorthodox methods have been vindicated, authough they might not work for others. My advice is don't do it that way. Go to College. If nothing else, as others have said, its 4 years of girls, booze and fun. You've got the rest of your life to work full time! After wrapping things up in this business (becoming financially independent) I will be going to College to study the things I really love: ANE History, Epistemology, and the Philosophy of science. |
Bachelor of Arts in History and a postgraduate degree

I too barely made it through highschool. 1 credit short
actually. They gifted it to me. I worked 36 hours a week during my last 2 years, making at the time BIG money on the end of a web press. When highschool ended I became the night manager of the camera and plate room. I saved my money, bought a computer store. Took it to a chain of 5. Got out of that and went into working with entertainment lasers. Got out of that in '93 and started an ISP. Sold the ISP and started a teir 2 provider. Walked away from the provider and started and engineering firm. Took that public. Bubble burst, moved to China to consult with the government there on repurposing stagnent factories as electronics production houses. Came back and started another engineering firm. I'm RTOing it this month. Life is what you make of it, you don't need the paper if you can walk a little rougher road. Ofcoarse all the while dabbling in porn since '95. |
I'm going to college in the fall. This biz is too random to make a living in for many years.

masters in communictaion studies thinking of doing a PhD...
|
bachelors degree in business and management, and my advice to you is to definitely go to college, but major in something that really interests you and motivates you. don't base your studies purely on what you think will make you the most money once you get out of school. the money will come later.
|
BSc in toxicology and finishing my masters in experimental health/biotechnology. Probably going to die from radiation poisoning in 40 years....and does anyone want to write a thesis? Willing to pay......hehehe

BS in Physics, went on to get a Masters in Computer Science. Can't say for a fact that you will ever use your college degree, other than it is filtering process to show companies that you have what it takes to do the 4 to 6 years to get thru it all, and I also agree with letshunt that it teaches you to learn and apply the things in an organized fashion! Get your paper, it will serve you well later in life !!!

What ? None of you clowns said "School of Hard Knocks?" I'm astounded...;)
some college, met a chick, we drank and fucked for just about 2 years, i don't have a credit to my name. But I had skills that weren't all that common in 'youngsters' at the time. So i ended up working for uswest as a unix admin, and went on from there. go to college. Sure you can always go back later, but boy does it suck. and it seems that everyone wants a degree these days, for whatever its worth. "they did the time" yeah yeah. I learned what I know by doing it, not by paying someone to tell me how to do it. HOWEVER, go to college, but major in something that you want to do because it interests you, NOT because you really want a job in said field. I was an anthro major, and look what I do now. Of 5 senior staff engineers i know, only one of them has a degree in CS, rest are english, general studies, geology, and biology. And all of them make well over 100k a year, not including things like qualcomm stock options. go to college, study, get out, do what you wnat. I'd go back myself, in fact am thinking about it, but damn it costs...t |

It depends on the situation. Also being a CEO of a well known company boosts your image. |
If you are the CEO of a company how much you make is up to you. If you only make $200,000 that's your choice, not your limit. How much you get paid by a boss or a board is not your choice. You can perform well but up to a certain point it's not up to you at all how much you make.
I'm saying I'd rather have complete control of my destiny instead of working for other people in hopes of getting well compensated. Are you saying you don't believe you have what it takes to make a $1,000,000+ business? $200,000 is your limit? |

Personally, I'm still in school, so it's going to be awhile before I have to make that decision, but right now, I have a couple small businesses going.. |

Hey man, the fact that you are here says that there is a good chance you are a potential entrepreneur. Even though there are some interesting characters here in this biz (and definitely on this board!)... most of the people here are making sites, shooting content, writing scripts & setting up servers because they felt that they could make some extra cash and start profitable businesses without having 'Mr. Rockhead' the boss over their shoulders telling them what to do. That is the entrepreneurial spirit no matter how much they make.
Some take it to the highest levels and some just get beer money every week but all of them do it because they have the drive to work for themselves. That is believing in yourself and it's more than most John Doe 'I go to a job I hate everyday just to get a check every 2 weeks then do it over & over again' types ever attempt to do. I respect everyone here for that reason no matter what your level of success is. Especially you students. You guys are getting a head start at biz life. Even though this is a differen't kind of biz you learn marketing, budgeting, & planning with this. That's more than most kids "Welcome to McDonalds can I help you" will ever do. Don't sell yourself short. You are in an elite group. Don't look at it as just porn. It takes a certain type of character to even begin to do this. I think whatever you try you can do. Just don't be scared to try anything no matter how big. That's how you win! |
