I don't mind phones so much... especially when the customer prefers that method of communication...

but what's up with these peeps?? it's like they think they're the President or something. "Please Hold For..." Gimme a break.

Though I do always wait to hear that it's not: "Please hold for the President of the United States..." before I hang up... just in case. :winkwink:

I got one the other day, telling me I'd won a free holiday and to press 9 for more information. I was in a good mood so I pressed it, then asked the indian sounding guy (how cliched is that?) which company he worked for. He mumbled something about "travel agency" then hung up on me. :1orglaugh

Automated, and generally illegal, autodial systems. The machine calls, and when it senses there is someone who picked up the line, it either plays a prerecorded session, or passes you to an operator in the boiler room.

I hate when you call in to a place and the automated system makes you enter your account number and such (saying that that information will be passed to the rep that takes your call) only to have them ask for the same info you just spent a few minutes entering in one number at a time.

i used to get them all the time right after i changed my cell phone number..it was always for some other people and if i didnt sit there and wait for someone to come on so i could tell them to fuck off..they would call daily lol

nothing like getting a call and it saying "if you are so and so please hold for an important message regarding your past due account" and if you hang up, they call again the next day

or how about the automated ones that leave messages on voice mail? lol

rowan 02-25-2008 08:46 PM

There are a couple of major telcos in Australia that now use voice menus... you're supposed to come up with what you want "in a few words" and unless you say something bland like "bill enquiry" it usually gets it totally wrong. Then you play a game of chasing each others tails as it tries to figure out what you want.

Often you need to say "yes" repeatedly for it to register. I had to call earlier and both times I ended up with the phone mic right next to my mouth, and shouting. YES!!!! :1orglaugh

I'm the exact opposite. I can't stand when people are trying to have whole conversations with me through text message. it would take 2 minutes to work out the details of a plan on the phone but it takes 2 hours texting back and forth.

Agreed. I point out to my wife that she's just spent $2 or $3 in SMS charges, and wasted 30 minutes to sort out something that could have been done with a quick call lasting half a minute and costing 30c.

I don't like that the phone interrupts me, but if someone sends me an SMS and I know it's going to be involved I call them straight away.
