How often do you clean your keyboard?

Since they are suppose to be filthy things carrying tons of germs...how often do you give your keyboard a really good clean? I guess I do mine every few weeks but I am sure it should be more often.

theS2O 06-26-2008 02:53 AM

once every 3 to 4 months.. not every hygienic huh? :P

GatorB 06-26-2008 03:05 AM

To be honest it would be so time consuming and troublesome to clean the "stickiness" out of it, it's simpler for me to toss it out and buy a new one. :winkwink:

just kidding by cleaning do you mean just wipping the board off or do you mean taking it a part and giving it a good hosedown?

G.A.F 06-26-2008 03:06 AM

I don't really see my keyboard as a filthy thing (some of them really are). It's the same as dealing with money (coins, bills), they are passed hand by hand and noone is cleaning them, or washing their hands after using them.

I just turn the keyboard upside-down and shake it a bit from time to time. Once in a while I clean it with a dry mop. :winkwink:

After Shock Media 06-26-2008 03:08 AM

Germs are good for you.
Actually I have a ban on all antibiotic soaps and such in my house with just a few minor exceptions. I allow a bleach solution for cutting boards and such. Otherwise just typical cleaning allowed and if its not bleach, vinegar, alcohol, or ammonia it is on the prohibited list.

I actually feel people are often to clean for their own good and most of that shit people buy does more harm than good. Hell few people even know how to wash their hands let alone should have the responsibility to use a anti bacteria soap.

On that note I will clean off my keyboard about once a week with air. Maybe once every season otherwise when we do major cleaning and then it will get a light wipe down.

Um, well I would wipe it if obviously needed to be wiped..so I guess by clean I mean really getting in between the keys and that sort of thing.

lhizy_05 06-26-2008 04:30 AM

i clean it atleast once month i'll used a soft brush...:1orglaugh:1orglaugh

cool1 06-26-2008 04:34 AM

you mean we are supposed to clean these damn things...lol
I have never clean a keyboard, I really just go buy a new one
its faster, and at $10 a keyboard its not too expensive.

SGS 06-26-2008 05:24 AM

Just thow it out and replace it every couple of months they only cost pennies.

Sarah_Jayne 06-26-2008 05:26 AM

guess the depends on how basic you go with your keyboard

StuartD 06-26-2008 05:34 AM

I guess that's one good way to ensure that no one else will touch your laptop.

JamesK 06-26-2008 05:38 AM

Keyboards are disgusting. I remember opening my 3 year old keyboard a couple of years ago, there was nails, shitloads of hair and lots of other shit in it. Ever since I clean it on a weekly base and I buy a new one every year.

human 06-26-2008 05:45 AM

better clean hands... before using keyboard :)

Emil 06-26-2008 05:54 AM

I used to clean my fugly looking keyboard with water and a dishbrush every other month or so and just let it dry. But my new keyboard got so many special buttons and other electonic stuff in it so I just try clean it with a rag when it really needs a cleaning...

Violetta 06-26-2008 05:57 AM

I rather buy a new one!

Spunky 06-26-2008 05:59 AM

The easiest way to clean them is with Fantastic and a old toothbrush and compressed air..comes out like new

GatorB 06-26-2008 06:06 AM

Some people take it apart and put the keyboard part in the dishwasher. Now that's lazy.

pornguy 06-26-2008 06:11 AM

I wipe mine with a damp cloth once a week or so, and spray the entire office with lysol every week.

tranza 06-26-2008 06:23 AM

I think I never did it...

MistressNirvana 06-26-2008 06:30 AM

Vacuum the keyboard , the keys get lost fast , buy a new keyboard .. and we start all over again ... i do that at least once per month .

Scott McD 06-26-2008 06:34 AM

Not nearly as often as i should.

Can't even remember the last time infact...

Silicone cover that I never clean anyway .. lol ..

Tom_PM 06-26-2008 08:53 AM

I'm the only person who touches mine, so I think that cuts risks down(?).
I also turn it upside down and shake it out and wipe off my desk before I vacuum. Then scrub the hell out of the palmrest area especially with a damp cloth. Then the key tops. If thats not good enough, well then poopiedoodles.

I have used a dishbrush and hold the keyboard under the watertap several times. Just let it dry and it'll work fine :thumbsup
