Small Govt, is Good Govt!

Paul Markham 10-18-2008 02:01 AM

Gave up watching because it was just the same old crap for less Government. Which is fine until the Levees need repairing. It's the quality of Government and the people who really control it, that's the problem.

The financial crisis today is because Government allowed the markets do too much of they wanted to do. Take away the controls and you let in the scoundrels. Yes the idiots in Government who thought it was fine to allow a person to borrow 125% of a houses value were also to blame. That's about the quality of people running the system, and honesty.

But it was spot on about the marketing of a US candidate. :(

Thats where people get it wrong, its the GOVT regulations that forced these banks and financial institutions to lend to people who shouldn't have got any loans. Its not that they wanted too, anything but.

Community Re-Investment Act

Oversight is whats needed, not regualtions

Then it's down to the quality of the people in Government.

When the only way to get in power is on your marketing strategy, budget and personalty what do you expect? The law was about getting the poor to vote for you and it failed. All sides are guilty of this because all sides lack real quality and judgment. Plus they are looking to line their own pockets as well.

And I'm not just talking about the US system. It happens elsewhere.

Paul Markham 10-18-2008 02:59 AM

And even if you lend too many rich people money they can't repay, if there's a slow down, you get problems. You need to regulate otherwise the people in the system will take advantage for their own good while fucking others.

Comparing running a country with running a skating rink is stupid. Shows how gullible the broadcaster thinks his viewers are. Maybe that's the real problem. End of the day the quality of the voters is the real deciding factor.

In a Democracy you get the leaders you deserve.

"Blame the CRA" is a laughable republican meme.

The use of loans as leverage backed by the shady "insurance" of companies like AIG cause the problem, NOT a 20+ year old community development law.

Use your brain... the rich point at the poor so you will turn around while they pull your wallet out of your pocket.

Oversight is obviously needed, but by who? There's so little accountability for anything anymore.

Its not a democracy, its a constitutional republic and at this point corporations and lobying bodies seem to get the leaders they PAY FOR. Money = Votes; its just the sad reality of our society at this point in time.

I agree its not all the CRA but it was the original domino that created this mess, then if govt is gonna force us to do this then fine greed will take over... political handouts to shut people up and so on... BUT The CRA regulation is what started this mess.

The videos are a great quick education.

actually the domino that started this was Phil Gramm pushing for The Glass-Steagall Act to be revoked. That happened in 1999 and it caused a bunch of this. That's why they put the act in place during the depression is it wouldnt happened again. After the act was revoked only 25% of all subprime loans fell under CRA.
