Anyone else taking advantage of the down economy?

A lot of successful businesses of today were built during poor economic times...so that means while some are going broke, others are seizing opportunities.

Are you seizing opportunities and taking advantage of the downturn?

I finally opened my first account with ETrade and am playing the market a bit. Nothing too much right now, just getting my feet wet and endlessly reading about investing, the markets, etc. I figure with a lot of big companies down, it's a great opportunity to buy some bargains.

I also recently started a sideline business selling tshirts with my nephews. They're handling designs, orders, etc. and I'm financing it. It gives them some pocket cash and I get an extra income stream without devoting my office hours to any of it.

I'm looking for more opportunities. I'm always open to ventures.

My sister's boyfriend opened up a secondhand shop and is already doing very well. In a city rife full of pawnshops, he's taking the "I care about you in these slow times" approach
He even has a swap and exchange program, where people can maybe swap out some nice jewelry for a TV set or a lounge chair for a set of golf clubs...

Taking the whole friendly, non-pawnshop approach is working well so far and should continue to work as the word of mouth advertising spreads

Yep, I've been selling a lot of beans lately.

I am the first in my town to buy a wheelbarrow and fill it with apples and rent a major sidewalk corner to sell them at.

We are doing really well my daughter is making a killing, she is wearing a very sexy bikini....

Your website REALLY fucking sucks. It looks like some terrible Flip designers made it and you paid $87 for it.

He's a pretty good appraiser, actually did work in pawnshops as a kid and has a background in jewelry.

He works actively with the police department regarding stolen goods. He has sellers fill out forms, show IDs, give phone numbers, etc.
