To all you people that blame designers for stealing your money
 

Well here is the story from another side. There is this company that is hiring a designer. Alright, they make a downpayment. Previews, corrections, approvals, new pages, corrections, approvals. When everything is approved, we begin making the last part - the HTML. And bang, we find out that client hired 2 people to do the same site. And client says "You know guys, I reconsidered, scrap it, I ain't takin it, because I hired another guy and he did it differently and I like that". Well holly fucking shit, we spent weeks on doing it, did everything that they asked for and now, when all thats left is the HTML we need to scrap it?

Strange situation, isn't it? Noone cares that job is nearly done, everything was approved, we were an hour or two away from delivering it.. Feels great, don't it?

Are they prepaid anything?

Thats why designers ask for 50% up front. And even then you are at a loss because of how long they waited.

Client was nice and made a 50% upfront, no offence. But thing is, right now everything is nearly done. And I'm not talking about a 3 day project here, its more complicated than that. But nevermind that.

I'm just saying that its weird to hire 2 people to do the same work. What is the whole point in approving everything all the way until the end? You get both examples you can already make your choice.

so you're complaining because they didn't send you the other 50%?

They don't have to send you anything if they don't like what you did... that's the whole point of only putting 50% down.

The design work in that portfolio is run-of-the-mill generic stuff.. you should be happy anyone even gave you work to begin with. it's not worth anywhere near those prices
