Your Odor is as Unique as your Fingerprint
Interesting Article:
By Andrea Thompson, Senior Writer posted: 05 November 2008 09:14 am ET Your body has a signature odor, just as your fingers have unique prints. And that "eau d'you" remains even if you change what you eat, a new study finds. Mammals such as mice and humans are known to have unique, genetically determined body odors, called odortypes, which act something like olfactory nametags, helping distinguish to individuals from one another, even pick out a mate. Like a fingerprint "The findings using this animal model support the proposition that body odors provide a consistent 'odorprint' analogous to a fingerprint or DNA sample," said study author Gary Beauchamp, a behavioral biologist at Monell. "These findings indicate that biologically based odorprints, like fingerprints, could be a reliable way to identify individuals," said lead author Jae Kwak, a Monell chemist. "If this can be shown to be the case for humans, it opens the possibility that devices can be developed to detect individual odorprints in humans." I figured. My armpits smelled like some strong kush after not showering for 5 days.
|
My ex was a freak who liked to sniff my armpits in the morning before my shower. I'm not kidding.

wow, amazing that they might be able to figure out some type of technology to be able to identify people that way
we have noticed animals knowing each other by scent and being able to keep track of many other animals and being able to remember each other |

Curry is not good for you... I don't care what that article says.

In the days KGB had huge archives ofjars with small samples of sweat to identify people.
|
I also heard (not too long ago) that detectives get air from crime scenes, seal it, and store it hoping that in the next few years they'll develop databases similar to the fingerprint databases

My mother used to run the science fairs in her school district and many years ago she had a student that did an experiment to see if mother's could identify their own kids by smell alone and they did every time even after showers, etc.
