Army Deploys Combat Unit in U.S. Against Possible Civil Unrest

Check out the last paragraph, I found it a bit concerning

For the first time ever, the US military is deploying an active duty regular Army combat unit for full-time use inside the United States to deal with emergencies, including potential civil unrest.

Beginning on October 1, the First Brigade Combat Team of the Third Division will be placed under the command of US Army North, the Army?s component of the Pentagon?s Northern Command (NorthCom), which was created in the wake of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks with the stated mission of defending the US "homeland" and aiding federal, state and local authorities.

Just a precautionary measure, I think. I guess they think some people are bitter over Obama's win?

Whats the big deal? They've done this before for temporary situations.

Disaster relief for Hurricane Andrew was one of them, I was there.

The big deal is that I don't relish military government control for anything...especially against the citizens and they are worried about something, who knows

Its better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it.

Good point, but it just seems a bit strange. I can understand with the hurricane, but it seems as though they are worried about unrest between the average worker and the rich. Maybe something is going on we have no idea about. There are allot of unhappy people out there right now. Who knows, I just found it interesting and thought I would post it to get other view points ;)

I had the same thoughts. They must be anticipating something that we don't know about. That is just my guess.

I see it both ways.

Imagine a riot, Lets just say in LA, of 50k people. Gonna call the National guard? They can send what 3000 men??? No you call in those guys.

At the same time, Imagine an invasion. ( We all know those damn cancdians are trying to take over ) If some country ( Canada ) were to try and invade who is going to stop them. National guard and Coast guard may not be enough.

Dear Canadians, I was using you guys as a jest. So dont get your feathers in a ruffle.
