No acknowledgement of Veteran's Day what-so-ever on Yahoo

Google - special image
Live / MSN - special theme

But Yahoo had one for Cinco De Mayo?

Fuck you Yahoo.

Fletch XXX 11-11-2008 07:24 AM

this really matters to you? lol

Lycanthrope 11-11-2008 07:25 AM

Yes it does

well then stop visiting yahoo.

you have that freedom! and the vets didnt fight for that one!

CIVMatt 11-11-2008 07:25 AM

Shitty Yahoo

JimmiDean 11-11-2008 07:30 AM

It actually matters to me too.
\what a bunch of assholes

Lycanthrope 11-11-2008 07:31 AM

I will.

I thought others, especially other veterans, might share my disgust and should know about it.

But silly me forgot that most (US) people here think serving their country means operating a tapper during spring break.

seeandsee 11-11-2008 07:31 AM

you are too much into net :)

Vicious_B 11-11-2008 07:33 AM

I think that is messed up too. Veterans day is worth more acknoledgement than Cinco De Mayo.

StuartD 11-11-2008 07:33 AM

So wait... when there's an election and non-Americans have an opinion, we're all chastized and pelted with rocks since we should have no opinion what so ever on anything American.

But when you have a holiday, every site on the net should be themed up to tell the world about it?

Lycanthrope 11-11-2008 07:49 AM

I will never chastise anyone for having an opinion.

Every site? No, but a site owned by a US entity? Yes - especially if they will go out of their way to honor non US occasions.

And my (US) clarification was simply to point out the group I was talking to. Most non us citizens are fairly patriotic, and I would expect sites ran in their respective countries to honor THEIR holidays / days of remembrance.

Cinco de Mayo is recognized by US. Its a big holiday in many states.

The people using it as their angle on this discussion, must not know what the day signifies.

Fletch XXX 11-11-2008 08:04 AM

ps: this thread isnt accurate.

the top articles are:

http://www.yahoo.com/s/985608 "World marks 90th anniversary of Great War"
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081111/ap_ca/obama "Obama to mark Veterans Day with wreath-laying"

"no acknowledgment" seems far fetched.

Lycanthrope 11-11-2008 08:09 AM

Actually, the top article was about Lindsey Lohan and her "friend".. with a big picture included.

Automatic feeds do not constitute acknowledgment.

IM not trying to argue here, but you claimd no acknowledgement, so i typed in yahoo and top articles were about "war and vets"

i have nam vets (green beret) and iraq vets in my family. but whining over SE logo graphics seems a bit lame.

Fletch XXX 11-11-2008 08:14 AM

anyway, heres to the Vets who dont need acknowledgment.

One vet in my family always says "dont give me any credit, give it to the guys who never came back."

heres to them.

Lycanthrope 11-11-2008 08:14 AM

Then don't partake in my lameness.
We often have the same views on things, and I usually like what you have to say - even if I disagree.
This just isn't one of those times.

Rochard 11-11-2008 08:16 AM

This is why Yahoo lost their edge man....

I just think theres a positive way to say things and a negative.

Instead of making a thread to honor vets, you chose to whine about Yahoo.

Meanwhile, you showed no recognition of those who sacrificed their life. Instead, you want a yahoo graphic thread.

that was my only point about "does this rly matter?"

Had I started a thread honoring vets, you would have probably called me self serving.

Yes, I'm whining about Yahoo - that was the point of this thread.

I've shown plenty where it needed to be shown.

Instead of whining about my whining perhaps YOUR points should be handled more positively?

Is today not a day of remembrance in Canada too? It is in the UK. I totally get your point but I think a nod can be made without it being specific to us Vetrans day as it is a day of remembrance in many countries today.

Tom_PM 11-11-2008 09:19 AM

I think that is disappointing on Yahoo's part too. :(
A small expense to get a custom logo to run for the day. If they'd wanted to.
They had one on earth day.

They are a search engine. Not a moral compass or the barometer of society norms.

Hopefully your local Starbucks, McDonalds, Bank, Gas Station, WalMart all recognized it as well.

:disgust

Tom_PM 11-11-2008 09:23 AM

True. Then why do they fancy up the logo on other holidays? That tends to raise expectations.

PornMD 11-11-2008 10:08 AM

You'd think Yahoo'd acknowledge it considering they're more than likely about to become a veteran of a long brutal war. Google kissed their ass goodbye already. :P
