Question for the savy computer geeks?

I started my system yesterday and experienced a corrupted profile. I tried to run my security programs to see what came up and I seem to be locked out of everything. Has anyone ever experienced this and how did you go about correcting it? I have a feeling I am going to have to wipe the drive and re install everything. I flipping hate this crap
On another note, is it possible to see where I picked up this virus?

If you haven't tried System Recovery, try that by starting Windows in safe mode. If that doesn't work, just know that it's nearly impossible for your data to be lost; it's just hard to get to :1orglaugh

Yes, complete windows profile. I also can not get into any programs.

I am on another system today. I got so frustrated last night I just stopped and haven't done anything with it since.

what are you talking about? "corrupted profile"? "I seem to be locked out of everything"?

if you tell us exactly what you see then we might be able to help

I understand. I am not too computer savvy, so my terminology may not be correct.
I started my OS yesterday, when it launched, all icons were gone from the desktop and screen saver was also gone.
I then tried to run all my anti virus programs and I am getting a message that I am locked out of each file that it tried to scan. I also tried to rebuild the profile like Microsoft explains off of their knowledge base and it would not let me.

Hope this helps ;)

Elli 11-15-2008 01:06 PM

Sorry Nikki, I'm all out. :( Can you log in via safe mode and at least copy your "application data" and documents to a non-C drive location to backup your critical stuff?

polish_aristocrat 11-15-2008 01:12 PM

im not a geek either, but have you already tried system recovery,, like someone recommended?

if you can login to your profile or administrator account in the safe mode, you can proceed and do a system recovery and try to recover the PC to the state from a few days ago

ive done it recently after a firewall update had fucked up my pc

Nikki_Licks 11-15-2008 03:57 PM

Thanks for the help you guys. I do appreciate the tips and links.

We went ahead and wiped the drive and created a new profile. :thumbsup
