SEO/Programming Experiment - will this get me banned from Google?

I know that Google has a problem with 'scraped' content, but I am writing a program that does it just the same and hope to add some features which will make the content seem more unique and thus seo friendly.

Checkout my demo site and tell me your opinions, is this style of content dead from day one? Do other search engines filter out scraped content as harshly as Google?

(Note: You'll notice the "intermediary" pages do note have the template implemented yet, like I said, a work in progress. More interested in your thoughts on the site structure.)

Thanks for any input, this has been a fun project for me regardless of if it works in its current format. I will let you know what happens as I add more content and it starts to get spidered.

Bings and or Bongs.

A setup like that worked great in 1998, now you will be lucky to make back the cost of the domain with that strategy... Not that it's impossible to make $$ by scraping content, but a little more sophisticated strategy is needed... :2 cents:

You need something that makes grammatical sense, not just a bunch of words stuck together. Lookup some lexical analysis and make sentences that make more relevant sense. Also stick in some keywords in those sentences that each page is targetting. As is, you probably won't get much traffic at all.

content is the least important factor in the profitability of a site :2 cents:

You also might wanna read this

especially

"Offer a site map to your users with links that point to the important parts of your site. If the site map is larger than 100 or so links, you may want to break the site map into separate pages"

and

"Keep the links on a given page to a reasonable number (fewer than 100)."

OP, Your site colors hurt my eyes.

There are step by step instructions on exactly on how to do successfully content scarping if you look hard enough. I'd prefer not to make it anymore easymode than it already is by posting links here.

They have hinted that was because of page size restriction. If you have enough juice > 100 links works fine. If you don't have enough juice... well your problem is not the number of links its the lack of juice.

This is unfortunate but true. I have a tons of sites like this and they worked great 10 years ago but haven't turned a profit in at least 7 years. Damn duplicate content filters. These days not much beats hand written content.

This is partially true, you would need a lot of juice and a lot of content for 100 outbound links to look natural.

Any page that has 100 links is obviously not going to be a landing page. Its a hub. In any case you'd be surprised how little a page has to "look natural" to rank.

Everyone has their own technics I guess... that's why we all can't be #1 for any given keyword. :winkwink:

Talking from first hand experience - no, this won't get you banned.

But you will struggle to make any money with it. Google is a smart bitch nowadays, it's not just about creating a piece of software that replaces synonyms.

I had a blog plugin that would take RSS feeds and revamp them, changing the words to synonyms, creating yoda-style sentences (changing the order of words).

It worked for couple of months, but then stopped for some reason.

And this was 2 years ago.

hm, shitload of sponsors RSS fed blogs are getting Google love, handwritten is the best but if you can drop 500 000 RSS fed blogs you won't die from malnutriotion, trust me, I always "morph" the ffeds though

most people simply have the wrong approach, they create 20 RSS fed blogs, see that 5 months later they get 60 uniques in total and give up, well, get a domain, install wordpressMU, grab the database, drop 1000 blogs + posts for all of them directly in the sql file, ulpoad, and you'll get a bit more than 60 uniques

ok, time for me to shut up

andy83 11-14-2008 04:24 AM

if i'm not wrong, read somewhere on seo that there is an acceptable ratio of words to actual links. thus with a links only webbie i doubt the SEs will be friendly with ya

and where who any jack or joe out there "grab this database?" lol.

V_RocKs 11-14-2008 05:00 AM

Google is now hand checking sites for this... All of my old scraped sites are now out of the index... MSN just recently started hand checking too... Some of them are now out of its index...

I meant export the database from your phpMyAdmin

if you're asking where to grab the content for the posts - feeds, FHGs, hosted flvs, anything can be turned into posts

jawanda 11-14-2008 07:37 AM

Interesting, thanks for the input guys. Pretty much along the lines of what I figured ... need to get with the times and figure out a way to generate some real unique looking content in there. Grabbing the first 'paragraph' of text from each page is really just producing garbage content, most of the time not even readable. Hmmm ... feeds.

Thanks again, I will keep playing.

nojob 11-14-2008 07:46 AM

Yeah that is old school SEM, they no likey.

If that's the case, wouldn't the same hold true for morphing RSS feeds?

StarkReality 11-14-2008 08:53 AM

Looks like the stuff generated by YACG, it worked perfectly years ago, but nowadays it's good for a month or two, then google will kick it. You can either push out the sites faster than google bans them, but it's not effective long term.

Scrapers still work, but they shouldn't look like scrapers (you need design) and the content should be rewritten the smart way (don't mix this up with silly word replacement or wannabe markov rewriters). On top, you need good sources to scrape your content, randomly ripping text from pages you find on the first result pages of the searchengines isn't a good idea.

Bottom line: Scraping is easy, getting away with it long term and ranking well is much harder.

DAMNMAN 11-14-2008 09:08 AM

I still got some cloakers raked in top 10 for good keywords so I'm not fuckin' with them yet. In the 90s I could get ranked in top 10 easy just by using all the tricks. (Like submitting everyone above you 1,000 times and getting them banned) Now it's freakin' brutal.

I flood my sites with one way backlinks. That's what works for me. Content be damned.. if you out link him, then even the original author of the content you scaraped, looks like he took it from you.

Lol :1orglaugh :thumbsup

Just made some updates to the program.. Working decently and formatting the content better but still digging for more originality. Lemme know anymore suggestions and thanks for the input thus far.

http://www.videofetish.net

Also, many pages spidered, getting about 10 - 20 uniques per day from SE's so far .. lol
