What makes you a cool geek?

When nobody had computer, a commodore 64 or amiga made you a geek. When nobody had internet access, having a 300 baud modem was cool. Once everyone had modems, you had your own website and that made you cool. Once people had their own websites, having a rack of 10 servers was what made you cool.

Now, everyone has broadband, they all have their own websites and they sit at starbucks with wireless connections prentending to be a cool geek.

So now, what makes you a cool geek? What makes you a step above the average joe when it comes to computers?

What is there to seperate us?

Actual talent.

Real guys were never concerned about any of this to look cool.
People like us did it because we are unique in the world.

Keep in mind the internet and Computer's and Software was really only a few guys. A very rare breed. I never done what I did to be cool I do what I do because I am one of these kind of people.

I feel like a cool geek because I'm not one of the scads of sex bloggers who posted on big sites for money that are all being laid off now (big news elsewhere even if no one knows about it on GFY) because they depended on someone else's ad revenue for a living instead of monetizing their own blogs. I was a webwhore before I started blogging in 2001 so from the beginning my blog (and later blogS) were moneymakers selling porn memberships to my own paysites and other people's, not scraping by selling real estate and trying to post a bunch of bullshit to make advertisers happy.

I'm proud of my longevity and immunity to the sudden realization other sites are coming to that advertisers aren't going to financially sustain a hundred billion thousand cool, pseudo-intellectual blogs with writers staying up 23 hours a day to make $5 a post and get into retarded flame wars in comments. I post what I want, when I want, and sell myself and other stuff I know converts. It's a lot tighter than other business models and I don't have to kid myself like others do who think they're cool geeks because their web presence is just a "hobby".

Capitalist whore and proud, geeky sorta-sex blogger.

I fall in love with internet girls, just their internet persona and want nothing to do with the real one :)

I wouldn't define it as 'cool', persay...but using computers to build a production company from a shoestring budget to a six-figure income in ten years puts us in a category of perseverent computer geeks.

I suspect many of these 'cafe geeks' on their wi-fi laptops are nothing more than a passing fad-of-the-week. *note* - I'm not saying all, here. They tend to hang out with that other category of posers who have their cellphones constantly stuck to their heads to make people think they're important enough that people need to talk to them constantly.
