So who got the Blackberry Storm last week?
i'm surprised i didn't see a slough of threads on here about it over the last week.
got mine last friday. i was gonna hold out, but i couldn't resist. so far i love this fucking thing. occasionally it is a bit laggy, and the virtual keyboard has taken a little getting used to, but over all i am very happy with it. the clickable screen thing is real cool too. feels much better than typing on an iphone or lg dare. so who else got one of these bad mofo's? :pimp http://www.oligarchy.biz/pics/bb_storm.jpg |
Hoping to get more feedback on it before I grab a few. Reviews I saw said the lag, especially between angle shift and within menus was really bad.
|
Ordered it, waiting for it to arrive.

there was already a firmware update for it that came out last monday. that seemed to fix a few of the quirks. other than that the only thing that i have found is that it doesn't like some of my video files. certain avi's will lock the phone up about halfway through, while others it likes just fine. one of the nice things about it is that it will sync with itunes (which i don't have), has a special version of roxio for syncing (which i don't like)... BUT is able to be connected to your computer as a removable storage media, just like a jump drive. so you can just drag and drop files from your computer on to it. |

The Itoy fails at its most basic function, being a phone. Its more mobile entertainment device then mobile communication device. If my main use of the device was for entertainment I'd buy a damn psp or something. Two years and countless updates and all you have to do is look at their support forums to see they still have major issues with the Iphone.
For your problem coming out of lock just tap the screen to wake it up before unlocking and that should fix your problem. Also watch the angle you are holding the phone at when trying to flip from landscape to portrait or vice versa. If you lay the phone on a table and try to flip it then it won't work as it doesn't know which way you're looking at it from; same concept in your hands. If you aren't the type who can deal with some bugs I wouldn't recommend buying any first gen form factor with a first gen OS smartphone in the first week it's released. Same rule applies to most products. Rim will start rolling out OS updates in the next couple of weeks so the Storm will only improve. This is what most Storms work like As for bad reviews A lot of issues I see are user created by people who are too smart to read the manual and/or find the shortcuts. One review, I think it was PC world, and one of the complaints was that she couldn't easily get the number keypad up. If they bothered to figure out how to work their Storm they would have realized that using the numlock shortcut for a few seconds brings it up. In some of the reviews they complained about the hassle of hiding/bringing up the keyboard but a swipe up or down does that. The NYT reviewer actually complained that his touch screen phone didn't have a physical keyboard :1orglaugh ; talk about reaching. Another common complaint is that it's not an Iphone :1orglaugh Duh This phone has a learning curve and 10 minutes in the store or one day of use at home isn't going to cut it. |

i am actually quite pleased with how smooth the thing works, considering i picked it up literally 2 hours after it was released state side. i really was expecting there to be some serious flaws. but so far so good. |
Can't wait for the BB Bold to drop in price a bit more.... I think that will be the phone for me.. but i'm patient.

i also played around with the curve and the world phone, but didn't really care for either of those too much. i don't have an ipod (because i am a chronic apple hater) so i wanted to get a phone that did some kick ass media shit. as a side note, i didn't know people were still developing in ROR. :pimp |
mine comes on the 8th
|
I will probably pick one up once Verizon moves into our area.

I have been looking at one... The reviews have been mixed and I am usually not one for 1st gen anyway... Things always seem to get better and cheaper after a few months...

plus it came with a $50 mail in rebate. so all said and done $150. |
Haven't got it yet, but most likely will. I love my BB.

My dad got it and I was playing around with it over the holiday. Couple issues I had:
1) While the clickable screen is nice, it's still not easy to type a long e-mail. Maybe you get used to it, but it felt like my thumb would hit the wrong key too often. 2) Going from screen to screen can be real slow. Three second delay sometimes in going from one part of the menu to another. 3) No wi-fi 4) Only liked typing on it when turned on its side. I think the vertical screen with two letters per key is a real disaster to type with. Things I liked though: 1) Phone is great. Good reception and loud. 2) GPS kicks ass and eliminates the need for a separate one in your car. 3) The screen is real nice and bright. I think I'm going to just get the Blackberry Bold. The reason I loved the Blackberry is being able to easily use it with one hand. The Storm is not a phone you can do that with. I think if you're using it strictly for business and sending out a lot of e-mails, you'll be disappointed. |
i want one!

Cool looking, but I have no interest in buying first gen anything.
How is the battery strength? Does it last more than a few hours of use? |
the battery is reasonable. if i am listening to music/watching videos/making alot of calls i need to give it a charge during the day to keep it going. seido is apparently working on an extended battery for it, which is great news. i had their extended battery for both my 7250 and 8703e and i love it. made the phone a bit bulkier, but i could go days without charging under normal use.
the lag seems to be helped by hiding icons and folders i don't use as well as uninstalling the apps i never use. the battery life was also helped by turning my GPS off unless i need it, and reducing the screen brightness to it's lowest setting (which is PLENTY bright). i am getting more and more used to the keyboard and am pretty fast with it now. the 2 letter per key or 3 letter per key keyboard in portrait view are both useless, so i just use landscape. one thing i have found is that i make significantly less mistakes when i keep my thumbs on the side of the keyboard they are supposed to be on. there is a larger gap between the two halves of the keyboard in landscape mode. if you're looking at it you will see what i mean. |
I have been a blackberry user for many years...BB rules! The best business phone...many of my friends have a iphone and have had many problems..always complaining about freezing, dropping calls, etc...
