Anyone care to recommend an interesting documentary?

I am really into it all when it comes to docs. I just got Netflix so I've been on a kick watching one documentary a night. So far I've seen:

Spellbound - documentary about spelling bee kids.
e-dreams - kosmo.com eventual fallout
startup.com - govworks.com eventual fallout
The Smartest People In The Room - enron doc.

Now I need more. :thumbsup

EthnicLover 12-03-2008 08:52 PM

I have a few.

9/11 - depressing but the best documentary about that day, only footage from towers
Favela Rising - Rio De Janeiro's AfroReggae movement w/ amazing personal story
Paper Clips - Tennessee students collect 6 million paper clips to understand Holocaust
Rize - dope doc about "krumping"

These are some great documentaries. Hope you enjoy them.

Bigger Stronger Faster is a HELL of a documentary on steroids and I've watched it a few times already. Seriously, you won't be disappointed...:2 cents:

I will definitely put this on the list. I was ranked top 10 in the nation for DDR players when I was sixteen (six years go). I didn't play any sports in high school, but I was good at a stupid video game and made a decent some of money from it. :1orglaugh Thanks.

d-null 12-03-2008 09:14 PM

outstanding documentary about Norwegian Black Metal focusing on Gaahl and Satanism and church burnings

it is a gripping story of this interesting man who is the singer for Gorgoroth and has spent time in jail for torture and forcing his victim to drink his own blood (the guy started the fight, Gaahl ended it)

Great Documentary, and the ending is as intense as it is disturbing: (click 'skip ad' when it first starts)

Jesus Camp (this is one is jaw dropping)

Darkland 12-03-2008 09:16 PM

Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price - After watching this one I no longer buy there.

Super High Me - Very entertaining AND enlightening.

Maxed Out - VERY GOOD and shows the corrupt nature of credit card companies

Have you ever seen, 'City of God'. Its not really a docum, but a movie based on a true story.

Then there is always, Hookers at the Point, from HBO :)

Jayvis 12-03-2008 09:19 PM

d-null, I love metal as I know you do too and will certainly put that on the list. Was almost going to watch it tonight.

Warchild, I saw Jesus Camp and it is definitely up there among my top favorite docs. I will have to check out Out Foxed.

Darkland, I saw Super High Me, despite the fact that I'm not a big user or anything but I definitely thought it was hilarious. Not too much useful information, was more or less good for a laugh and I still enjoyed it.

Like I said, I love docs, keep em coming guys. :)

BVF 12-03-2008 09:19 PM

I just watched a documentary called "dark days" on netflix streaming..It's about homeless people who made their own community in the dark Amtrak tunnels under New York City...It's amazing what people can adapt to...

Some of them actually had a comfortable shack down there with electricity and everything.

I saw that one too. I thought it was decent. Certainly an interesting way to live, but it didn't do much for me overall.

awesome, even for people that don't like metal, this documentary is extremely well done and thought provoking on religion and nature and the cold northern country, really entertaining half hour, will disturb some I'm sure :thumbsup

Wow, that guy that was going around announcing the Donkey Kong kill screen, how annoying. Props to the guy going on anyways.

People were treating it like the guy found a cure for cancer, it was fantastic.

It was a great watch, thanks for the guy that originally mentioned it. It's a shame the bearded guy never took him up on a live match. When I competed, I beat the number 1 player, lost to a guy that was ranked around 64th, shit just happened... it's all apart of the competitive nature of the sport and that's essentially what really makes things fun and interesting. Similar things happen a lot in tennis.

Can't wait to go through these posts some more, although now it is time for bed. :)

thread bookmarked, great suggestions in this thread :thumbsup

the one dude that they show earlier in the documentary smoking a cigarette outside Gaahl's house and complaining about having to walk through a field of mud to get to the outhouse to take a shit is the same producer that starts crying and whining that he is going to faint climbing the mountain too, pretty funny city slicker kid almost passing out on a Norwegian nature walk :1orglaugh
