Any Chefs in the house? I need some help!

ok its not a food question but a cookware question.
i made some soup. i gave tony and myself a bowl and it was delicious. i went back to get seconds. i grabbed the lid handle to pull it off but its stuck.
i'm guessing it created some sort of vacuum or something and now i can't get the lid off the pot. right now i have the pot sitting in in the sink in cold water trying to get the lid to pop off.
help!!!
has this ever happened to you?
or am i just stupid?

turn the lid while lifting up and see if you can break the seal..

also you could try to pry the lid open with a dinner knife or small flathead screwdriver..

Careful I once put a flathead screwdriver through my hand.

Put the lid's knob in your butt, squeeze your buttcheeks together really tight and jump up really fast!

Quite possibly - putting the pot in cold water will make it contract, thus making it HARDER to get the lid off. Try hot water instead...

Bring the soup back up to a boil - it was probably cooling off that created the suction.

RevTKS69 12-13-2008 07:53 PM

lid issue

You may have to put the pot back on the burner over low heat...

When it cooled, the air inside contracted, creating a low pressure (vacuum) seal. If the hot water doesn't work, you need more heat...just do it slowly. Don't want the lid to go flying.

Hope this helps...

grrr i'll try

MandyBlake 12-13-2008 07:56 PM

ok i put ice cubes on the lid thinking that might shrink the lid a bit...if that doesn't work i'll try to make it boil again. :)

1. You take off your shoes and socks.
2. Insert foot in my crotch or mouth.
3. Enjoy.

:winkwink:

NEVER EVER put a lid on hot food, always wait for it to cool.

HorseShit 12-13-2008 08:40 PM
