Thinking of selling a domain - any advice?

Hi,
I was contacted about a domain I have had for a while and asked if I wanted to sell it. I thought about it and we settled on a price then they backed out. I guess it is possible they were never really that interested in the first place and were just fishing for ideas.

Anyway, I am now thinking of selling that domain anyways. I haven't done anything with it in years and have no real plans of doing anything with it. It is actually one of the first domains I bought and was registered in 1999. It gets about 100 uniques a day to some very old sites I still have on it, but nothing major. The domain is www.group-sex.com (note: what is on there is very old so half of it probably doesn't even work anymore). Any thoughts on it? Do people buy hyphenated domains? It could be a good name to brand for the right person.

Any advice on where I might list it or go about selling it or even if you think it has any real value?

Thanks in advance.

Based on name quality and that traffic, IMO you're looking at mid to high 4-figures most likely. Without hyphen that's probably a high 5-figures name at least, just to get an idea of how much hyphens hurt names.

Unfortunately there are a lot of jokers online...sometimes offerers ask you to get an appraisal from a list of companies mentioned on some board post - never do that if you ever get an email like that because it's 100% a scam run by those appraisal companies.

yeah they just contacted me out of the blue and asked if I was willing to sell it. When I asked for an idea of what they wanted to spend they responded and after a couple of emails we agreed on the price then I didn't hear from them for a few days. I contacted them again and they told me they had decided to go with a different name.

So who knows how serious they were.

Thanks for you input though. I appreciate it.

That's too bad - I've had that kind of thing happen before, it's tough when you actually get an educated buyer who finds and weighs out many different options. A lot of buyers seem to jump on whatever name they're after, or register some piece of shit domain if they can't buy the one they're after.
