Do you walk your dog in the rain?

I have been a pretty good owner (IMHO) and take my dog for a walk every night I am home, no matter how late or cold it is, but not really looking forward to tonight's walk since it appears it is going to keep on raining.

What do you people that live in inclement weather areas do? Tough it out or tell the dog "tough luck?"

WeirdHomer 12-17-2008 03:42 PM

Yes i do. The girl i see on my route is always horny, rain or not.

Dogs go out 3-4 times a day min... rain, sleet, or snow...

CaptainHowdy 12-17-2008 03:49 PM

Yes, I actually did last Saturday ...

2012 12-17-2008 03:50 PM

not really looking forward to it, the "postgirl" ? just inspired me

woj 12-17-2008 03:55 PM

Only if he was a bad dog...

Sosa 12-17-2008 04:36 PM

No walks lately for our dog. It's been -15 degrees at times the past few days!

Rique 12-17-2008 04:37 PM

I literally have to drag my bulldog out the house so she can do her thing. I open up the front door and then she always turns to look at me like "You crazy motherfucker you honestly think I'm gonna go piss andshit in that rain?". Thank god it doesn't rain here in Southern California! LOL

qxm 12-17-2008 04:45 PM

hell no!... I wouldn't go out tonight unless I was paid a hefty premium for it...

GetSCORECash 12-17-2008 05:27 PM

Don't have too, I have a big yard, so when it rains, he is smart enough not to go outside and get wet. I don't think I could even drag my dog out in the rain, if I wanted too.

CIVMatt 12-17-2008 05:30 PM

Yep I hold an umbrella too for them, although yea I'd have the drag them out

Supz 12-17-2008 05:33 PM

I do, better to get a little wet, then have the house stink like shit. She is usually like lightening in the rain, she wants to get in as fast as i do

HomerSimpson 12-17-2008 05:33 PM

if he doesn't want to go out than no - else yes...
that's democracy... I would respect his decision... :)

of course, the dog has to pee no matter what, right? I've already walked Caspian 2x today.. I carried an umbrella and wore a jacket.. not so bad :)

We don't go for walks so he can pee. We do it so he can check out what is new in the world.

aubreythree 12-17-2008 05:53 PM

yeah, and i always do

SordidMedia 12-17-2008 05:59 PM

If it`s raining, my Staffie refuses to go out in the garden to have a piss or a poo so I have to go stand out in the rain and eventually she follows after several minutes. Different story if it`s a "proper" walk over the park...she will happily go out whatever the weather.

HorseShit 12-17-2008 06:04 PM

I'm glad I don't have any animals that require you to take care of them, all my animals are smart and self sufficient.

but hun, if you believe your dog has no feelings, then why walk him at all? :)

Strickie 12-17-2008 06:16 PM

My dog wants nothing to do with rain

TurboAngel 12-17-2008 06:19 PM

My dog hates it but yes I walk her in the rain. I'm a bad mommy so I make her walk around the block.

:(

camperjohn64 12-17-2008 06:19 PM

My cats never ask to be taken for a walk. Sometimes they ask for an afternoon nap so I nap with them.

They never ask for their litterbox to be emptied - since my cats are toilet trained. The most they ask for is food, fresh water, and please flush the fucking toilet John.

Pussy is always better than dog shit.

captain.g 12-17-2008 07:52 PM

\My dog has control of his bodily functions. A walk for a dog is like reading the newspaper for people.

Yeah, that part is a drag, but they have to get wet sometime.

Sure thing, if they are trained well, they know they must go but they are in a hurry and finish fast.

I am more concerned with his feet. He soaks up water like a sponge and my house is mostly tile and hardwood floors so his tracks are all over the place.

No, I will not put booties on him. I wish I could teach him to wipe them before he came inside.

I live in HK and so dont have the option of living in a house with a backyard so with a big dog not much choice in the matter. He goes out atleast twice a day everyday....and if Im not able to take him myself (ie really really sick, monster hangover or out of town) then I have the helper do it.

wyldblyss 12-17-2008 09:43 PM

I have cobby chihuahua's. That means short legs. A rain puddle could drown them and 3 inches of snow and we need to call in the avalanche team to find them...hence they are pee pad trained although in the summer they do go for walks in nice weather. They do not like getting their feet wet, so rainy days are out.
