i was so in love with roboform. my little usb key was my buddy for so long.

rip roboform.

all is good though. otherwise, i am never going back ever. my life is so much easier now.

qxm 12-22-2008 08:47 PM

what did u replace it with? Saving ur passwords in the browser itself? .. I still have my usb key and can't live without it....

DeanCapture 12-22-2008 08:47 PM

I'm making the transition now :thumbsup

stickyfingerz 12-22-2008 08:47 PM

How much more coffee with foamy shit in it are you drinking now though? :Oh crap

seeric 12-22-2008 08:49 PM

gxm - im gonna use 1password thingy. seems to be the norm for people switching.
dean - you will never be happier.
stick - yesterday i had a ginger snap latte with extra foam. i am foamier than ever.

lol.

Juicy D. Links 12-22-2008 08:49 PM

candyflip 12-22-2008 08:53 PM

Here are some nice Mac apps I stumbled upon yesterday. I bought myself a Christmas present.

You might find them useful.

seeric 12-22-2008 08:55 PM

dazzle does some cool stuff.

DWB 12-22-2008 09:00 PM

I am also about to make "the transition" when I pick up a Mac Book Pro here soon.

I've been sitting next to RedShoe as he has been exploring his new MAC in ways I would rather not talk about in public, but I will say that it turned me on enough to want one. He and Dirty Danza were doing that kinky "show me your screen and I'll show you mine" thing that MACs can do. I had total wood the entire time.

Are you driving a Prius and sniffing your farts yet? THAT is when we know they really have you.. If Steve Jobs is sick like they say you might go back to normal if he passes. Similar to like the main vampire getting killed off. All the other vampires wake up out of their scary nightmare and are able to return to a normal existence. Ill keep you in my thoughts. Hang tough through this. :Oh crap

I use to think the same way you do about Mac's until I made the switch.... once you realize the difference you will not turn on a PC again..

So now I just think you are....

Since when did PC mean Windows? Build a computer and install Linux. OSX is based on Linux. So enjoy Linux without all the hardware restrictions.

<- Running Fedora 8

Are the hardware restrictions really that bad? I'm in the process of converting over the Mac now. I don't have a problem with hardware restrictions. As long as everything works well together and I don't have to spend my time trying to figure out why this is not compatible with that - I'm fine. All I want to do is create beautiful work. I don't want to spend my time googling issues to try to find out why my hardware is having hardware compatibility issues.

So far, I'm extremely impressed with my new Mac. I've installed software & hardware on my new Mac and couldn't believe how much easier it was. I've installed hard drives in PCs before...sometimes it's easy and sometimes it's hard. But never have I installed a hard drive in a PC with the ease that I did with the Mac. It slides right in and it's ready to go. From what I can tell, Macs are made for people who just want to get to work and get shit done. PCs are made for people who don't mind tinkering with their setup all the time to keep it going.

Exactly... :2 cents:

Anything I have done on a Mac just works... no messing around.. no driver issues, blah blah blah... it just works period.

Babaganoosh 12-22-2008 09:24 PM

1passwd - Can import from roboform.
http://agilewebsolutions.com/products/1Password

http://www.devon-technologies.com/ has some slick shit for Macs too.

Not hating on you, or Linux, as I love Ubuntu, but if OSX is so close to Linux because of being based on it, then why is none of the big programs working for Linux, you have to use Wine or something like that?

What I see as an advantage is the fact that 99% of all the major software that is for Windows, also works perfectly on a Mac without needing any extra software, unlike Linux.

3xTom 12-22-2008 09:36 PM

1passwd is GOD

SNL 12-22-2008 09:39 PM

I use 1password and back it up with mobile me.

1password blows doors off roboform.

seeric 12-22-2008 09:46 PM

yup, 1password just imported all my roboform shit. last little obstacle has been slayed.

now if they only had a usb key 512 bit encrypted all secure and shit i'd be happier than that army dude in the pic where he married that hillbilly.

Thurbs 12-22-2008 09:48 PM

1password is the shit. to what end do you want to make a usb key? I'm sure I could ask one of the ISPRIME ppl how to lock down a mac, they run custom kernels ffs :)

For some reason I just can't seem to make up my mind. I worked for 6 months on a mac in my last job, but there's still certain things I could not get used to that keep bringing me back to windows. The only thing I miss in the mac is Expose.

Also, I've been tinkering with linux since around 1998, but I decided that it was best kept at the server. But I'm really enjoying some of these user friendly distros like ubuntu and linux mint. I'm probably gonna switch one of my computers to linux only really soon.

I tried to stick with Linux and failed miserably. For a working environment it just isn't productive. Linux is great for servers but it's no good for a serious webmaster's desktop OS. I switch between mac and windows every day. My main desk has a PC. My little desk has an iMac. I really don't have to choose one or the other. :thumbsup

i guess i can just keep my existing key for when i travel somewhere without computer. i like to use it in internet cafes and friends houses. i never type my password in someones computer, only fill form and uncheck the box to save. you never know what one of my idiot non computer friends got infected with, so i try to keep it to a bare minimum anyhow, but just in case i get stranded somewhere and need to log in somewhere i like to have it.

if i have to, i can live without it.

It's not close to Linux but from what I've read OSX is based on it. There a thousand flavors of Linux and none of them are even close to being the same. Apple has done a nice job making Windows applications portable. Er, or should I say Microsoft. Since M$ controls Apple behind the scenes. http://news.cnet.com/Apple-learns-to..._3-208979.html (That's from 1997 but they renewed their partnership last year I believe)

Most things are available for Linux under open source that are equal or better then mainstream applications. And they don't cost a penny. It's true I need to use Wine for somethings like Photoshop but they work perfectly.

Edit: Twinkie fucker.

I just use Logmein.com and login to my main desktop at home. Works great for me.

Its not like I've never worked on a mac before lol. I don't think they are bad machines, Im just not all into falling for the hype, and not a fan of the OS, or the over priced hardware when I can build something way better for way less. :2 cents:

well, if i'm gone for more than a day i don't let my machines run. all in all, thinking about this so much, i really don't have a use for logging in anywhere anymore, so i'm gonna reformat this little jumpdrive and have 4gigs of space to carry useless shit around on i guess. lol. besides, i can use the 1password on the iphone, which i have anyhow. case solved. ditch the usb password key.

seeric 12-22-2008 10:19 PM

i gotta disagree stick. been on pc for 20 years, since i first started with commodore 64, then to the little mac II Se or whatever it was, then back to PC. i've had the luxury of having both being with shanes world and hush for the past few years. Mac fits me better, are easier to deal with, and are far more productive for me. thats why we're all individuals i guess. different strokes. there is no hype involved.

OS X kernel is based on BSD if I remember correctly. So that makes the kernel a UNIX derivative.
I have to agree that OS X is UNIX made pretty though.
