dreamhosts lowest point in history!

2 years of "unlimited" server for a lil over $10 AND you get a domain LMAO no wonder why absolutely everything is unusable across dreamhost today.

Yup I signed up for a couple of accounts today for data backup purposes

Brujah 01-03-2009 10:00 PM

using a code or what?

Machete_ 01-03-2009 10:02 PM

Considering their history of infected servers, why do people host with them?

LiveDose 01-03-2009 10:04 PM

Too funny.

True dat.

I had tried them years ago, and within an hour demanded a refund, and canceled my account.

farkedup 01-03-2009 10:11 PM

the code is 202 don't even try to use it the account you create for a few days LOL it'll make a decent "dump" account once shit balances out.

XPays 01-03-2009 10:34 PM

No, they're trying to raise money to pay their datacenter space fees and power bill. I laugh because they are still up to their old shenanigans, after all this time. :2 cents:

I used to love Dreamhost, then I don't know what happened to them.

I switched to Site5 recently and have been loving it. No adult, thought. :thumbsup

I thought their ToS specifically forbids data backup? Isn't there some bot that flags your account if your storage:transfer ratio is bad?

If its as redundant backup who cares? It's $10 for 2 years.

Europeeing Lee 01-08-2009 11:40 PM

i have been giving people the MDDR promo code for over a year

takes the yearly total of $119 down to like $29 or some shit

I have a private server and private mysql server with them and couldn't be happier...better than webair that is for damn sure....tried webair 4 times now and they couldn't ever get anything right

Shit, even if they do that cronjob a backup to your DH account nightly and dl the backup from DH nightly to a backup HD in your home.

Yes about the TOS forbidding static storage, Im not sure how they detect it.
Ive been with them for a couple of years with only a couple of small problems that were resolved fairly quickly. Overall Im happy with the service and the price is right.

Dreamhost changed the policy around September. They allow 50GB of a special "backup" that you can enable in the panel. This space is not backed up with snapshots like other files are, and the files are not accessible from the web.
https://panel.dreamhost.com/index.cg...=users.backup&

You may access your backup user via ftp, sftp, scp, and rsync!

JamesK 01-09-2009 02:42 AM

You get what you pay for :2 cents:

And shame on them for actually posting down times publicly, they should just keep it secret like other hosts so people can assume they are perfect and our lives would be filled with sunshine and unicorns ;)
