I used to think that until I watched all of season 1 and 2 back to back. Dude, the american one is pretty fucking funny.

The beauty of the UK version is they know when to fuckin end a show. 2 seasons and a special to tie up loose ends and you're left wanting more. American TV, plays it to fucking death until you just stop caring and stop watching. So far the American version is still pretty good.

You gotta admit when Toby paid like $400 for a black barbie doll with a unicorn horn on its head, that was pretty funny.

The best british comedy ever was Fawlty Towers and it only played for one season. 12 perfect episodes and that was it. Fucking brilliant. American TV should be the same way.

I find both the US and UK versions of the office entertaining in their own ways but for me the original UK version is some seriously funny TV as you really can believe that these are characters in a real UK office and not some actors acting out a script.

The attention grabbing moments, the constant flicking of an eye to the camera to check they are being filmed and the moments of pure comedy that make you want to cringe for me perfectly parody those annoying "real life docu-dramas" that UK TV has always been so fond of (as they are cheap to film).

It is worth taking a look at the UK version if you haven't seen it, but watch a few episodes rather than judge it on just one. This is one of those series that grow and grow on you. American viewers, unless they have seen the not comedy versions of these real life "fly on the wall" shows may not fully appreciate it though.

the UK version is definitely better in my opinion. The American version is funny, in a very American way. The UK version makes you life because of the uncomfortable situations.

My favorite moment in the UK version, was when Keith is being asked about his job review and keeps answering "don't know" to all the questions. Then when David says well what if "don't know" wasn't there what would you answer, and Keith sits there just blank. So David asks if he's forgotten the question and Keith says yes. LOL

OMFG, soooo fucking funny.

I am a fan of the British version and the bits I have seen of the American version are actually pretty good too. One of the few times the American networks didn't destroy a British show.

tranza 01-07-2009 05:49 AM

I prefer the English version, yet I won't turn the U.S. version off it's on although I think Steve basically carries the show

LauraLee 01-07-2009 08:37 AM

Absolutely love it. Now, I just need to check out the UK version.

John-ACWM 01-07-2009 08:40 AM

I was addicted to the original UK Office and now I'm the same with the US version. Both great shows! Although just after the writers strike the episodes didn't seem as great. Also Pam & Jim I'm finding increasingly annoying.

Anyone in the US know why it's taking a 2month break from TV?

Andy CHOOPA 01-07-2009 12:15 PM

Awesome. Love this show. The whole Pam and Jim thing gets annoying though. The best episode was the dinner party at Michael's house.

WebairGerard 01-07-2009 12:19 PM

the office is great

ultimatebbwdotcom 01-07-2009 12:21 PM

I much prefer the UK show although I do enjoy the US version.

The big difference for me is that the UK version is "fly on the wall" and they also mastered countless "I wish a hole would open up and swallow Brent" moments.

collegeboobies 01-07-2009 12:21 PM

The office is awesome. American version is even BETTER

love the show. now i'm dyin to see the British version

fetishwealth 01-07-2009 12:27 PM

The Dinner Party and the Deposition were so cruel, so blackhearted, I can barely watch them over and over.

Isradude 01-07-2009 12:27 PM

Love it !!!

Bryan G 01-07-2009 12:56 PM

British version is way better

Lee 01-07-2009 01:26 PM

The UK version is genius, what Ive seen of the US version is very funny too.

Elli 01-07-2009 01:31 PM

I just started re-watching the UK version. It took me two episodes to realize how funny it was the first time I saw it. I haven't seen any of the US version because I couldn't see how it would translate to the US market, but I guess I could give it a try. I do like Steve Carell.

Red Shoe, I totally agree with you on length of series. The British have one or two great seasons, then end and move on. That's definitely the way to do it.

If you want to see something SUPER funny, watch "Britain's Got The Pop Factor ... And Possibly A New Celebrity Jesus Christ Soap star Superstar Strictly On Ice". It's a 2 hour tv special that totally rips on American Idol shows. BRILLIANT stuff. I can't believe it played on tv and people "got it."

I love the office, US version. My girlfriend put me into it and im hooked now. Im the biggest fan of Andy Bernard... i seriously think this actor is close to be a genius. He definitely deserves his own show to fully express his talent.

fetishwealth 01-07-2009 03:15 PM

On a related topic - Circuit City is selling season 1 of Flight of the Conchords for $12.50 today (It was $10 a couple hours ago when I bought one)
