What's the absolute loudest concert you've been to?
Is there one concert you've been to that completely stood out in terms of volume?
Hands down for me it's the Mudhoney concert I saw at the Cabaret music Hall ( think that's where it was) in Montreal years ago. It was SO LOUD that my ears were in pain and I had to cover them at times. Mudhoney were good... but really... there were fucking loud. |
Judas Priest. I'm gonna say about 1990ish. My head was ringing for days.
Nine Inch Nails Im thinking.
Rammstein, 2001 in Montreal.
High frequencies were WAY WAY up, my ears were ringing for a week after, definitely done some permanent damage. I always wear earplugs to concerts now and take them off if its not too loud. |
Def Leppard for me - late 80's. That shit was so loud, my ears were ringing for 2 days!
crowbar, EYEHATEGOD (small venue loud as fuck shows) come to mind, if you talking big arena music then Gn R man!!!
AC/DC 1988 in Portland Maine
The Cure, a few years back. I haven't been to many concerts.
Seriously...no pun intended: Deftones
I wanted to get a close view so I got to the side of the stage next to the speakers stacked 7 or so feet high and parked it. I had the the "pillow head" effect for days, it was really uncool:( |
I was always one of the pussies that brought and wore ear plugs to concerts. So can not tell ya.
Pink Floyd '94 after that concert they banned all concerts at Vanderbilt Stadium because of how loud it was.
Strangely enough (and I have performed in, and been to hundreds - if not thousands - of shows), it was Nitzer Ebb:
I don't know what the fuck they were thinking, but the bass was up so loud that it physically hurt my chest and I had to walk out. I guess their audience likes that shit... The headline band, Ministry, was quite sedate in comparison: RIP William Burroughs... ADG |
Emerson Lake & Palmer . . . 1970 something.
Whitehouse http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whitehouse_(band)
I'm sure I lost some hearing at this show, very small venue, low ceilings, loud noise.. bar sold ear plugs, I should've spent the $5 |
Probably Deep Purple..way back when
Judas Priest on their Painkiller tour ... they had "All Guns Blazing" :D
close to that was Saxon ... at 20.000 feet ;) |
I agree with Fletch, CROBAR! Then chill at Purdy lounge and stumble to Penrods for the Nikki beach nude brunch buffett...

Oh wait, Pink Floyd reunion tour about 1994. I was first row the last seat on the right - directly in front of a speaker the size of Panama.
stevie ray von
Ozzy Osbourne in Atlantic City in the 80's. that's right, Randy Rhoads was the lead guitarist, and Knight Ranger opened up the show.
I was in front of the speakers, so my 14 year old ears never properly developed after that. |
aerosmith pump tour ,actually take that back it was at a bar that held about 30 people my friend brought in a pa like for a 1000 person venue. it was so loud it actually hurt my ears
Warehouse rave in LBC late 90s... intense... or maybe it was just the e... either way, great time.
It really depends on the venue and the sound guy. Big BIG venues aren't going to be loud, and the bands that usually play those have very well paid sound guys who know what the fuck they are doing.
It's when you get the little shit hole venues that are like 2,000 max capacity and a sound guy who is dumber than shit. - Then you're hurting. It's really about the acoustic levels. Not "omg teh band is teh hard rok". Tiger Army at the Ogden in Denver CO was prob one of the worst for me. Their sound guy just sucks, and it was a tiny venue. They sound much better out doors, I don't go to see them anymore if they're indoors. |

But other then that "The Who" circa 1990 |
At The Joint at the Hard Rock in Vegas, Monster Magnet was so fucking loud my ears rang for 2 days after. 1998. Kid Rock opened for them.
Glastonbury few years ago. A bit of a snooze fest like i imagine all the ones above would be but then Oasis came to the stage and blew everyone away.
Hate Machine War Encore... 18 is ok!
Rage Against the Machine at ASU stadium.. outdoors but very fucking loud
Loverboy - Tacoma Dome, Mid 80s. That was when rock acts were selling out huge stadiums and people were dying at shows. It was insane. I still hear "Lovin' Every Minute of It" when I sleep.
Second place: AC/DC - Live at Donington - My living room LOL. M neighbors hate me :) |
SLAYER! Jesus Christ I can still hear the fucking reverb.
Edguy/Hamerfall show. 2nd Deep Purple at a small venue :thumbsup
Slayer. Had actual static in my ears, thought maybe I popped an ear drum. Had to actually cover my ears at one point.
Judas Priest TURBO, think I was 15.
I don't know the band. It was just a local band concert in our area. Genra was hardcore metal.
Scorpions around 2003 maybe. I played in bands for many years and have been to well over 500 shows and never heard one that loud. It hurt down into my throat and I couldnt hear well for close to a week. Wear plugs to every show since.

Ted Nugent -=Thread Closed=- PS.. at his concerts the down middle section of the concert floor is referred to as the "killing fields" for the pure sound aimed at that area |
