HPV and the industry

How common is HPV in the industry? I mean, since there is no test for men I figure it gets spread pretty easily

Just wondering

Ozarkz 02-05-2009 03:36 PM

It's not discussed.

There is a test for men, but since the strains that cause cervical cancer in women do not pose a health risk to men, insurance companies will not pay for it. It is so costly that most doctors won't even administer the test.

On the bright side, that strain does tend to be dealt with by the human immune system within a couple of years of being contracted.

As far as the industry goes, condoms prevent transmission of most of the HPV family of viruses, but you can't do creampies or a decently raunchy ATM with a condom on so, well, there you go...

(In case you are wondering, yes I am a hypochondriac :winkwink:)

99.9%

...........

100% and prob near the same for HSV

polish_aristocrat 02-05-2009 04:30 PM

I'm not sure if condoms prevent HPV.

I think it's spread similarly to genital herpes.

Actually there are ~ tens of HPV strains, some are responsible for cervical cancer in women, and - perhaps - also oral cancer in men...... and others are responsible for genital warts...

That's what I remember from reading a few articles about it in the past...

......and condoms do not do much for HPV.

Vaccines against HPV are effective only against certain strains.
They are recommended for young teen girls nowadays, but there are also studies on how they benefit older women. Also, in future HPV vacinnes for men will be available perhaps, but not in near future for sure..

Thats an interesting question...had never thought about that...

jakethedog 02-06-2009 11:29 AM

one word .. rampant .. Always used condoms and always a good visual inspection .. your only fair chance of prevention ..

LexiLexxx 02-06-2009 11:33 AM

The vaccines, side effects is enough to make people not want to get it.

thats the thing, condoms and inspections dont do shit for ya. The virus doesnt show that easily in women. usually stays in cervix and only visible with tests using vinegar or a microscope. All it takes is juice hitting your balls man.. thats all it takes

AIM, the industry's sexual health advocate does well to educate performers about the dangers of HPV as well as HSV (herpes). It does very little to encourage studios to require a full panel of testing to prevent the spread. In effect they are saying, "you probably already have it so why bother with mandatory testing".

I would imagine they are aware that the two things that would put this industry out of business the fastest is mandatory drug testing before a scene, and mandatory full panel STD testing (HPV, Herpes, and Hepatitis in addition to HIV, Chlam and Ghono).
