So Im thinking about trying World of Warcraft. Anyone here play?

So much hype about this game, I'm thinking of diving in. I've watched some videos and it looks like it might be fun.

Does anyone here play?

BardMan 03-18-2009 10:30 AM

wow, several years later people are picking it up for the first time....

hmm...I can sell you my account which has several level 70ish toons...lots of gold, epic flyers, various flavors of low level pvp toons- 19 / 29

The Duck 03-18-2009 10:33 AM

Try darkfall instead.

UFGators2007 03-18-2009 10:34 AM

It will destroy all of your free time and time up the rest! BEWARE!

DrChango 03-18-2009 10:38 AM

It is way too time consuming. It's well done, but there are too many "grind" quests in it, at least back when I played (I managed to quit right before the first expansion went live)

Fetish Videos 03-18-2009 10:39 AM

Will duel for clicks.. :)

CIVMatt 03-18-2009 10:40 AM

No shit, we won't see you for at least a year, I played it once, then figured out it was harder to quit then crack, I did end up on CNN though for our Leeroy Jenkins video, that was cool.

I played warcraft early beta, and retail for about 3 years. Ill sum it up for you.
It is a great game, but incredibly time consuming. I got burnt out playing pretty much daily. I took a long break from the game and went back for the first expansion pack. The additions were a lot of fun, however, its the same game, only in a different area.

I highly recommend playing with friends as it can be frustrating playing an already populated game by yourself for the first time. You can play casually ( few hours a week ) but to really take advantages of the game, you should be in a guild, playing regularly a few hours a day.

It is a fun game, and I met a lot of really cool people whom I still keep in touch with that I played the game with. The game is full of immature players (drama), spam bots, and bots/farmers.

Do I recommend it? I would if it wasn't so old, but the expansion do not offer anything other than more time sinks.

Just my two cents

the only problem with wow is it is carebear, the pvp is "capture the flag" type of stuff and no real challenge in the PVE aspects of the game. its a gear-chase, and the one aspect about true PK (player killing) from UO (Ultima Online) has been removed, and that was when I kill you, I take what you are wearing.

Good old PVP (player justice) died long ago, but Richard Garriot was years ahead of those in regards to what would come of PVP.

im old school UO pvper, so wow is watered down so mainsteream can play it and its not that challenging, even PVP, its just you gotta chase gear...

Marcus Aurelius 03-18-2009 10:47 AM

I have an 80 rogue on Lothar. haven't logged in for bout 2 months now.

Klen 03-18-2009 10:49 AM

I never tried it but i play warcraft III all the time. Why bother with wow.

Bored 03-18-2009 10:49 AM

fletch have you tried Warhammer online??

no, ive anticipated Darkfall and awaited WarhammerOnline but to be honest never really found interest enough to devote time to sign up,...

when UO started mimicking wow interface I realized where MMORPgs were headed... pvp as it is now is such a joke compared to what was once such a beaitiful thing: player killing.

in wow you can kill ppl all day long and there is no reward, I want to take your armor and chop off your head. In Old UO you could place a bounty on someone and bring them their head, but of course,... mainstream America dont like that stuff and as Electronic Arts bought things up, real PVP is/has been removed and whats left is "ganking" and no real fun... just lvl 70s+ ganking lowbies, and its the same in most games... the day Blizzard sells wow to EA will be sad day. I miss Origin Systems.

i grew tired of playing games alone in a room with the NES.

i enjoy social games where people play a special component of the gameplay and group play, especially PVP. Such as 5-10 man dungeon raids. Ive played healer and many Mages.

PVE (player versus environment) is boring and never will be as challenging as playing against OTHERS.

Once you cross over from the "solo console gamer" playstyle and begin playing raids where 25+ people play against bosses its much more of a gaming experience than sitting at home playing tetris.

this is of course just my opinion, but nothing beats organized PVP (player vs player) raids on enemy towns where 50+ horde storm an Alliance town and its complete PVP battle.

nothing beats that, "pvp" is where gamers who liked "difficult" level end up.

alexchechs 03-18-2009 11:01 AM

I played for a while. It's seriously like crack. I gave up after level 50 or so...

Good for you. I am working on my 90 day's clean chip. My name is sinclair and I am a WoW-aholic.

TrainWreckContent 03-18-2009 12:24 PM

i used to play it all the time until i found myself sitting up til 2 or 3 in the morning playing then i had to get up and go to work the next day at 6am

tranza 03-18-2009 12:35 PM

It's not the kind of game I like most...but it a good one for sure.

Smiley 03-18-2009 01:20 PM

i can agree its worse than any drug out there....ive been playing prob two years now, mutliple toons various levels from 55 to 80, blizzard sure knows how to get ppl addicted with expansions, achievements etc etc etc....the game is brilliant in design for any level of player, casual to extreme....

i play consoles, pcs, psp, ds games and wow always seems to pull me back in...

tried Warhammer, gotta say a great great game that took years to finally release....but bam the latest expansion for wow came out like two weeks later and got hooked back in...

tried age of conan, blew....didnt have anything thought out and it sucked...

WOW = limited life for sure, late nights, have meet some great ppl thou, industry and non industry..just realize that going in and truely control your playing time (have done many 16hr nights...then try to go to work the next day....no more)

WarHammer = not as time consuming, reached the highest level pretty fast and not anywhere near as much "grind" quests as wow...(grinding for rep sucks mooseballs)

If you decide to join:

Ner'Zhul (PVP): Kraizo & Ozikrane
Hydraxis (PVE): Oziark, Kraizone, Oziarkne & Ozikrane

Mostly on the PVE lately, dont mind the PVP just cant stand the fucking immature kids that camp you when youre trying to quest...PVE still has red flagged peeps and bgs and all that stuff that makes killing someone 30 levels beneath you fun....

Stopped playing it a few months ago...

Its bad on the work schedule.

Stacked 80 Rogue..

The expansion came out... I pimped him out for a month or so and then I quit.

I found other things to be much more important, though I find myself wanting to hide in the shadows to stab a mother fucker once in awhile

PVP is fun when you have a good group :2 cents:

I am Shoeman!

Tom_PM 03-18-2009 01:54 PM

I remember playing dungeons and dragons games on my pc xt clone on 5 1/4 inch disks. Ah memories of swapping disks in the middle of battles. In text.
