PC Techs - Disk not formatted error (out of no where)
 

I just started getting this error on a partition of mine... is there anyway to recover the files on it? I don't want to format it!

That's a bit odd! There are quite a few file recovery programs you can try (recovermyfiles is one I've used in the past - very handy).

If you're paranoid enough - remove the drive immediately and do a thorough antivirus/antimalware scan. Do the recovery in another computer.

ack, not good. Was this just a partition or a whole physical drive.

Hey man, is this a NTFS parition, if so I have run into this problem on my uncles computer and it was an easy fix. Simply run a chkdsk /F on the partition you are having issues on. If you can't boot the computer that has the partition then download hirens boot disk and run the DOS environment and do it from there.

If you value your data, clone the drive and fool around with the clone.
