It's amazing how cats can sleep with really loud music on

And dogs as well while they're so much more sensitive to sound than we are.
I'm listening to music and it's real fucking loud and the cat doesn't care. She just sleeps. She can move to another room but won't.

The funny thing is when she hears a noise outside from a bird or something else i don't even hear she wakes up right away.

What's also quite amazing is that they recognize you without seeing you. My old place (i recently moved) had the same entrance for 4 different appartments and as soon i opened the door downstairs (i lived on the first floor) she started to meow. She didn't do that if someone else opened the door to the hallway.

I wonder if she could smell you.

The place before that previous home i also lived on the first floor and you had to go up the stairs in the hallway to get to my door. My landlord back then had 2 stupid fucking dogs that looked like rats. My cat hated those dogs...so did i. If he stopped by every now and then (it was a drama queen fag who always was crying about stuff) the cat would run and hide under my bed or couch even before he knocked on the door. I didn't even hear him yet but the cat would already dissapear because of his fucking dogs.

In general i think cats are dumb animals but their senses and instinct are pretty amazing.

Not sure if you meant that as a joke but yeah i wonder what exactly made her aware it was me. Maybe she recognizes how i smell but i doubt my smell would travel that fast. Maybe she could hear me walking outside already and recognize that. Or the way i opened the door.

The 2 doggies my dad had ages ago recognized the sound of his car from a mile away. Way before i could hear his car they already went nuts and ran outside.

mabe you have deaf kitteys :)

and yeah
my dog would know when either of my parents was home
we lived in a condo too

they can probably smell you or hear something distinctive to you

I remember how you used to make fun of KRL when he said he's communicating with his dogs :upsidedow

Talking to your dogs through telepathy is not exactly what i'm talking about.

blogsy 04-19-2009 04:20 PM

kitty ear muffs have a market these days?

Dirty F 04-19-2009 04:20 PM

KRL said he studied esp and remote viewing for 20 years or something and had tons of proof that it's real. I asked him to show me any evidence. Just 1 piece of evidence and he couldn't.

My two are the same way.

I blast music to try and keep them out of my office, so I can keep my door open (all computer equipment will warm room). However, they will sleep, sometimes on desk next to speakers, and not leave. But somehow can hear someone knocking at the front door.

Ozarkz 04-19-2009 04:51 PM

I've noticed this.

I don't have a dog but I take care of friend's and family member's dogs..

I listen to extremely loud music and it doesn't phase them.. They will follow me into the room and lay down next to the speaker... I end up feeling bad and turning it down..

It must have something to do with how their ears hear certain frequencies..

Wasn't a joke. We all have a distinct smell. They say that dogs can tell the difference, perhaps cats can as well. I'm thinking that they probably can because they are natural predators and oftentimes nocturnal... a strong sense of smell like that would be essential.

SilentKnight 04-19-2009 07:56 PM

One of our cats can detect the smell of pepperettes within seconds of taking some outta the fridge. The cat can be sound asleep upstairs...yet appears within 5-10 secs. when it smells the pepperettes.

And no, its not the sound of a wrapper, or any other noise - she doesn't show up at the fridge when I'm taking anything else out. Just the pepperettes.

And like someone above pointed out - she knows the sound of my car when it pulls in to the driveway.

I dont have any pets pets are for lonely people or losers. they somehow attach a human like personality to an animal and try to convince themselves an animal loves them to make up for a lack of love in their actual life.

bloggerz 04-19-2009 08:04 PM

cats freak me out but they're cool from a distance

Supz 04-19-2009 08:06 PM

I think its more amazing that they can lick there own private parts.

Jakez 04-19-2009 08:11 PM

I'd also say it's the smell. If a dog can smell drugs at the bottom of a drum of gasoline I think a cat might be able to smell you walking into the house.

I had a friend that used to blast megadeth all day in his room... he once told me how cats were tolerant to loud music and how his cat never seem to bother.

His poor cat ended up deaf :(

Ouch that's harsh, but then again, I don't tell women on our first date that I have a cat, haha.
