do people actually choose to live in alaska??

sure... when they want privacy to grow weed, plan unibomber type attacks, when they're hiding from the FBI, IRS and other various government agencies or when they are so socially retarded, they can't exist anywhere except in a cabin at the end of a 300 mile long dirt road.

i grew up in alaska and raising a child there is borderline child abuse.

its also worth pointing out that most people in Alaska have to escape to Hawaii or else where to get sun... and one of my best friends who is a doctor in Anchorage told me recently that right at around 50% of patients who walk through the door are on some form of medication for depression, primarily due to the lack of sunlight and Seasonal Affective Disorder.

Hawaii all the way. I would only want to go to Alaska for no more than a few days to see the scenery, could never live there.

I grew up in Alaska too, and I'd pick it in a heartbeat over Hawaii to live in as an adult. Alaska has a better class of bugs and people are more inclined to mind their own business, plus you can drive somewhere else when you get fed up. But yeah, raising a kid in the bush is ethically questionable at best.

I have been to Alaska in the summer a few times, and it was nice enough, but after watching The Deadliest Catch -- there is NO WAY I would want to live in Alaska!

Where I am now is as far north as I am going to live.

I would prefer Hawaii :)

This! I never knew Hawaii had so many broke-down meth heads and sad-sack hookers.

And even in Alaska, most people know enough to stay the fuck away from Dutch Harbor / Cold Bay / Pribilof Islands / Bering Sea / Aleutians. Those crab boat captains all live in the Lower 48 when it's not crab season.

Hawaii is a nice place to visit an all but you don't want to live there.
No one I know from the US that moved there ahs lasted a year and moved back.

They are both equally as isolating but in different ways. I know Hawaii has a ton of problems but the cold, lack of sunlight, dry counties and the fact that the people elected Sarah Palin are enough to make me lean towards the Islands

I was watching the Deadliest Catch and the guys went grocery shopping.

Milk was $8.49 per gallon. I just paid $1.79 today.

For me to live in either location means I must be hiding from someone, so Alaska would be my choice.

Hawaii of course...a rainbow everyday, I went there earlier this month. Some things are expensive...an apple was like $3...here in NY you can get 3 for a $1

The only thing I was a little disappointed about was the beach water was not very warm, like Mexico or the caribbean.

I knew where they were at. Doesn't change that fact that milk is still $8+ a gallon and I'm only paying $1.79 :321GFY :winkwink:

Dry counties? I have been to TOK and Anchorage and the towns in between I think your thinking about texas. Cause the beer flows everywhere I have been to in alaska. I have never been to hawaii but I heard the natives hate white people so fuck them. If I want a nice beach I would rather go to south china than hawaii.:thumbsup So I would rather live in alaska.:2 cents:

Seriously. The show ruined Hawaii for me as a destination...

That was filmed on Oahu in Honolulu which is like a tropical San Francisco. Not the best place to vacation and escape the rat race, drugs, and thieves. The north shore is the place to be on Oahu. Otherwise go directly to Maui or Kauai for a vacation in paradise.

I lived on Maui and dated a guy from Alaska. Alaska sounds nice but I would never live there.

I would have to visit them before deciding. I have always been more interested in visiting Alaska than Hawaii but for long term living it would probably have to be Hawaii.

If you have money, both.

Alaska would be the home base. Alaska has low taxes, and even gives money back to citizens. Hawaii is very expensive and highly unionized.

I agree. Blue states suck as places to live and do business.

I'd winter in Hawaii and spend the other months in Alaska. I prefer the great outdoors with lots of open space and no tourists lol
