omg .. IE8

Just installed IE8 and everything is fucked. Especially the controlpanels. Wordpress, phpBB.. :Oh crap

brassmonkey 04-30-2009 07:38 AM

damn not good

Dirty Dane 04-30-2009 07:39 AM

There is a "compability view" button. It fixes it temporarily, but the scripts needs to be updated too. Thats for sure.

fris 04-30-2009 08:01 AM

its garbage

PR_Sebas 04-30-2009 08:04 AM

I love how on Vista they made IE 8 an "Important", basically mandatory update. Took me 5 minutes to figure out how to turn it off and make it stay off of my taskbar as "update needed" or whatever.

Klen 04-30-2009 08:07 AM

Ie6 is still best. Also if you cant use ff and cant stand slow ie7/ie8 there are plenty browsers based on ie like maxton, green browser, avant browser,etc...

stickyfingerz 04-30-2009 08:16 AM

Who uses IE anymore? lol

shunga 04-30-2009 08:22 AM

If you're not running IE it might come as a surprise to discover how your layouts look to, what, 75% of surfers.

As much as Firefox irritates me at times, I would agree with you, IE is useful for checking layouts but that's about it. I really hate how they messed around with the interface.

hjnet 04-30-2009 09:04 AM

Maybe, if more and more sites look crappy in IE more people would switch to FF? :)

I use google chrome 95% of the time anymore unless there is an application that won't work with it for some reason. :2 cents:

Rochard 04-30-2009 09:13 AM

I haven't used IE in over a year.

Even if IE adhered to standards, that still wouldn't be true. :2 cents:

Yeah I know, I was fucking with him. I don't do proper coding, I do right coding. I get errors up the ass on my css/html via W3 but because of IE's retardation I don't care because it looks fine in all major browsers in all major operating systems. :thumbsup

Yes, I mostly use FF when surfing. But since most surfers are using IE, I have to check it with IE too. My own site, trades and so on... Also because I am moderator.

That's what MS is doing in IE 8 now everyone is bitching about that. Make up your fucking mind or is it y'all like to bitch about IE no matter what? Seriously bitch about it not following stands then it follow standards and you bitch about that. MS didn't want to put the compatibility mode in IE8 so peole would get off their asses and fix the code on thier sites. Pople bitched so they put it in there. So that'll be that much longer before website are coded right. So if website isn't coming in right with IE it's not the IE's fault it's the sites fault and the retarded webmaster who can fucking code even basic HTML.

It's nice to see IE's market share is being eroded, it used to be well over 80% last year, now it's less than 60:

Browsers Grabber Hits Percent
MS Internet Explorer No 41781081 58.9 %
Firefox No 16965171 23.9 %
Safari No 8599543 12.1 %
Opera No 1375627 1.9 %
Unknown ? 599164 0.8 %
Mozilla No 596198 0.8 %

IE8 seems to really enjoy fucking up CSS's.

CamTraffic 04-30-2009 06:11 PM

thanks for the heads up

Those stats are BS. No way Safari is really that high and Chrome is nowhere to be seen even though is nearly triple Opera or higher. Oh and IE is not anywhere close to being under 60%

Voodoo 04-30-2009 09:33 PM

If you design your pages properly, it really shouldn't matter.

charlie3273 04-30-2009 09:56 PM

IE8 works fine for me though I use FF more website building and downloads. :2 cents:

Those are figures for an "artistic" kind of site, lots of the users are the Mac brigade. I lifted the stats directly off my server.

And then they are still bullshit since they do represent REAL world statistics. That would be like me walking into a bar in Boston and asking how many people are Red Sox fans and then using that to infer that 99% of the population as a whole must be Red Sox fans.

WDG 04-30-2009 10:46 PM

I just knew you'd come back with something.

It depends on your market of course, but that site of mine is pretty general.

Look at the stats - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usage_s..._web_browsers:

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi..._share.svg.png

The usage share of web browsers.
Source: Net Applications[1]
Internet Explorer (66.82%)

Mozilla Firefox (22.05%)

Safari (8.23%)

Google Chrome (1.23%)

Opera (0.70%)

Other (0.97%)

From W3 as well for comparison: http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_stats.asp

Post stats from your most popular site then GatorB and let's see.

What?! 99% of the population as a whole ISN'T Red Sox fans?!? BLASPHEMY!

WDG 04-30-2009 10:50 PM

The W3 schools surfers are more likely to be geeks though using alternative browsers.

Wiki should be a pretty good representation of the REAL world.

PersianKitty 04-30-2009 10:59 PM

Mine percentages for the last 30days

Internet Explorer 72.63%

Firefox 17.10%

Safari 4.41%

Opera 2.71%

Of those using IE
7.0 52.33%
6.0 41.96%
8.0 5.29%

webdonkey 04-30-2009 10:59 PM

Installed Firefox, never ever used IE again...
