Planting a tree in my backyard

I've been thinking about planting a tree in my backyard for a couple years now.
I think I'll finally get around to actually doing it this spring.

But I would like suggestions. What kind of tree to plant? Maple? Oak?
What's a nice blossoming tree? What's too messy?

i put two maples at the back of my property...to block out neighbours viewing my back yard..lol

anyway...dont dig the hole too deep for them or they end up sitting in water...especially if you have clay underneath your top soil

Maples grow at a pretty good clip too. I'm also thinking about starting some cedars this year as well, but I'm not sure where to put them.

Maybe it's just because it's spring that I want to get out and cultivate the earth. :1orglaugh

Having trees in one's backyard actually increases the property value of your place. Does it still apply during the recession?

Also, try getting jasmine shrubs and other plants that are repellant to mosquitoes and other vermin.

Thanks!

Yeah the housing crisis hasn't really affected the value of my home. (Canada)
