Read that.

It's more of a poverty issue though... and less of an overpopulation issue...
More of a rich getting richer, problem...

because you could fit the world's population in TX... You could give every human being on the planet an acre if you included Arizona and New Mexico....

voa 05-12-2009 02:27 AM

That is the sad true

quantum-x 05-12-2009 02:50 AM

Grab a copy of "Manufactured Landscapes" - great documentary, it will blow you away in terms of scale.

Yeah, kids born in slums really deserve to be there. You know they made a conscious decision: hmm... Europe.. USA.. No, I'll prefer cholera.
:disgust

Carmine Raguso 05-12-2009 05:07 AM

These people throw their garbage straight out their windows and into the same water they bathe in, cook with and drink? I'm supposed to feel bad for them?

I don't.

So how many of you are going to off yourself to solve the overpopulation problem?

The world isn't overpopulated. It's poorly mismanaged by large corporations and raving mad lunatics. You can take every person in the world and give them a 1/4 acre or land in Australia and there would still be a good portion of Australia landmass remaining along with the remainder of the world.

Anyone who believes there are too many people should take it into their own hands and remove themselves from the equation.

I personally feel that is just BULLSHIT.

I live in an area where there are a LOT of really poor people and a good portion do not live in that trash. They keep their homes and area around them clean. It simply comes down to the " Ohh look how bad we have it idea, and that they are just tooo fucking lazy to clean up around themselves.

It is more a matter of Family values and family education than anything.

If you don't have the balls to kill yourself then we can just drop you off in the middle of the desert and you can take the time to figure out how underpopulated we are while you try and get your way out.

Incorrect.

"The total land area of the contiguous United States is approximately 1.9 billion acres. Alaska, separated from the contiguous United States by Canada, is the largest state at 365 million acres. Hawaii, occupying an archipelago in the central Pacific, southwest of North America, has just over 4 million acres."

So the entire USA is about a third of the way there. You were only missing 47 states & 2 countries of the same size.

:1orglaugh

OG LennyT 05-12-2009 07:20 AM

Not overpopulation, just ignorance.. I've been to some of those countries and we do have it well in America is all I have to say

Vicious_B 05-12-2009 08:13 AM

Its heartbreaking that so many live in those kind of conditions.

jollyperv 05-12-2009 08:22 AM

Offer a good hunk of money for voluntary sterilization. Would at least solve the crack baby problem.

bullshit. If those countries didn't have their high population there would be less pollution. WHO causes pollution? HUMANS. Less humans less pollution. Don't tell me if you wiped out 80% of the population of China and India that things wouldnt improve immensely. China and India combined are about the same size of the US and Mexico combined and have 1/3 of the worlds people. Compared to the US and Mexico combined, which are #3 and #11 in population, but have a combined 6%.

China's 1 child policy has kept the population in check. It's just that they waited too long to start it. India will eventualy pass China as the world's most populous country. It'll take awhile but the pollution will ultimately lead to shorter lifespans and fertility issues so eventually the problem will take care of itself.

tranza 05-12-2009 08:32 AM

It's their choice, ignorance brings these kind of things... Since we know the difference between right and wrong, we can avoid a lot of wrong things that we seen on the internet/tv. I shouldn't have pity. That's all...

You just contradicted yourself. It isn't their "choice" it is their "ignorance." They haven't been educated.

Oh right because it's their fault... good thinking

Elli 05-12-2009 02:45 PM

That looks more like an overconsumption problem than a population problem. If we focused more on providing clean tap water and santitation, then there wouldn't be plastic bottles everywhere, for one.

hypedough 05-12-2009 02:48 PM

Well he kind of has a point and you are looking at it from a privileged view. I hardly think they have handy little carts to haul to the curb for Waste Management to pick up weekly. Third world cities don't exactly have the luxuries we take for granted and it is stupid to believe they do or expect them to based on our comfy view from the top.

Very sad.... But so true I am most certain my dog has more luxuries than those poor kids.

They have access to FIRE.....All they gotta do is gather that shit up and at least they can burn it....Hell, even in Africa, they burn at least SOME of the trash that's laying around everywhere. The smell of burning garbage is just part of the landscape there.

And that is where their ignorance comes in and with the level of pollution seen in those photos your point is moot anyways. If they had done that from the start that would have been a fine solution except for the level of harmful vapors it would produce. I doubt they have the machinery to collect all the garbage now that it has accumulated the way it has which is were my point is.

It would take a decade or more to restore the damage from its present state so "fire" isn't the solve all solution here.

JP-pornshooter 05-12-2009 04:26 PM

a few years ago there was a conference in latin america about populating growth on the earth in the next 50 - 100 years.

Basically the earth population growth is going gang buster currently, the population will double in something like 100 years but already now, we have serious problems feeding the entire population (20% of humans are said to be living below the WHO limits for min daily calorie intake).
Many farmers are now growing soy and other grains to be used for fuel, so food will likely increase in cost to keep up with cost of fuel and thus make things even worse...

pollution plays a big part as fertilizers in itself is a big pollutant, so food production is not something can just "turn up.." without serious repercussions..

PurrrsianPussyKat 05-12-2009 04:59 PM

Amazing.. I can't get over the people swimming in the garbage water. Gross!

crockett 05-12-2009 05:23 PM

It's really amazing how much we can fuck up our homes, stuff like this is always a eye opener to how you good you have it, regardless of how bad you think you have it.
