I need a great chat room software for under $500
The chat room software Im using now keeps kicking members out of the chat room for no reason and my members are starting to get mad.
They keep responding that its a bandwidth issue but I have 25mbps on my server and only 15-25 members in the chat room, so that doesnt make sense. I'm looking for a chat room software that has cam chat so the members can cam chat with each other. I want something I can buy and not lease (Like userplane) and had great support. any recommendations? |
what are you currently using?

I have great chat software, but I think it costs more than $500 now. Well actually, it's about $500 for 500 users for one domain. I decided to buy the edition that lets me have multiple chat rooms on multiple domains (all on same server) - it was a few hundred more, but left me room for expansion. I would up your budget a bit if possible - well I guess you could start smaller, for around $300 and then upgrade when you get mor than 100 people in your chat rooms

Why not run an IRC server?

actually not trying..
actually,"lace", "waddymelon", "lazycash", and anyone else complaining, it was not my intention to bump any thread. In order to answer someone else's question on another thread, I had to have 30 posts in order to post a link.. so instead of trying to jump on all the stupid one liners in the current today's posts, I went looking for posts that had chat in them, as that's pretty much the only thing I can really help people with, and add to the conversation.
I was trying to be helpful, and post honest help or information about topics that I have experience in. I have no desire to bump or annoy, and if that is the way you see it, then I apologize. Further inspection of the gfy forums seems to be that someone makes up something and then a bunch of people come in a post quick one-liners that do not really add to the conversation - if that's the case, then perhaps I should of just jumped in to the latest nonsense posts on the front page and left one line replies like "that's retarded" - and of course have some annoying flashing banners and bunch of links to affiliate programs that 99.9% of webmasters on this forum have already seen. - If that's the status quo then I am not sorry that I broke it... I could not leave a link for the chat software that I use, as I had not had enough posts to do that.. but now I can.. so here goes.. Realchat is what I use and I think it rocks. (There is not affiliate link, I do not think they do that kind of thing) As far as bumping and spam goes, it seems to me that leaving your rude, inflammatory and insulting comments are not only non-helpful, but also do the "bump" thing that you are complaining about. Again sorry if I offended anyone by trying to answer questions that I experience with, and trying to post helpful information instead of a one liner, perhaps if I just opened up a one liner insult page and copy pasted into the latest forums, then I could be like most everyone else here and not get any complaints? Again sorry - no need to reply and bump this old stuff even more - peace |
I love chat room software. It's software like this that allows us to communicate much in the way we are communicating now. And I love to communicate. Except when love makes me speechless.

If you need just text chat, try this one. Its definitely under $500. Furthermore, its open source :)

Did you really think it was relevant to answer a 4 year old thread? All you did was run a search for chat and then proceed to post your site's url in each of them no matter how old the thread was, thats spamming. Look at the date of the thread you are posting in, and even if you couldn't post a live link you could of simply typed out the url. |
yes

Yes, I do think it is relevant to answer questions that are years old, especially considering most of the questions I have read here were not answered very well, if it all. Posting relevant information about current and old topics is helpful for the new webmasters that come in and look for information in the forums. Perhaps people such as yourself find no value in old information, but I find value in years old information everyday. I assume that other people coming to forums such as these would appreciate relevant answers to questions as well. I did run a search for chat, but I did not post my url in every thread, although that would appear to be par for the course here at gfy, where people post one line answers, often not relevant to the conversation. Some people simply post a few smileys and have a dozen urls in their sig. So according to the status quo here, even if I did do that it would just be what everyone else is doing. So unless you all calling every person here a spammer, then I suppose you should reconsider that label as it applies to me. I admit that I do not pay much attention to the date of the thread I am adding information to, if that offends you, I apologize, as not offense was intended. I would suggest if you do not want to read old threads, then you check the date and click the back button. According the Matt Cutts, head of the spam team at google, adding relevant information to a topic is not spam. Looking at a majority of the posts on the current threads, a majority of the users on this board do not add relevant information to the threads, and have a dozen links posted - so I will take their definition to heart, and I always do when commenting in forums, blogs, etc. I have followed the rules of this board, and the ethics that are suggested by web spam experts. If old threads should not be kept alive, then perhaps your beef is really with the board, and not the people who are trying to share information. I would suggest the board add a "date started" column to the main page for each forum if that is such an issue for you. If you think old threads should be closed, then suggest the board admin do that. Quite frankly I would keep all the old threads open, as this place is supposed to help new adult webmasters and old alike. If posting relative links to conversations bothers you, then perhaps you should suggest that they remove all links from all posts. That is an issue for the board administrators however, and not an issue you should have with me. Your attacks, and those by others on me are un-warranted. Your real issue is with the board. I would appreciate an apology, but perhaps you could send that as a pm - so you don't reply again and "bump an old thread" as that appears to really offend you, lace, watter and some other folks for some reason. |
tried it - kind of neat - but..
