I need a break away leash before I get killed

Do they make such a thing? A leash that would separate under say 75# pressure that you could snap back together?

WarChild 05-31-2009 11:00 PM

Why would you need such a thing?

Deej 05-31-2009 11:03 PM

buddy pulling you out into traffic?

JFK 05-31-2009 11:03 PM

getting dragged by the dog ?:1orglaugh

420 05-31-2009 11:03 PM

That sounds like my kind of foreplay.

WarChild 05-31-2009 11:07 PM

The dog should never be dragging you. The dog shouldn't be ahead of you at all, it should walk/run behind or beside you.

I can walk all three of my dogs with one hand so I'm no certain what the issue is here?

420 05-31-2009 11:12 PM

Why do you want your dog to get out of the restraint?

It might run into traffic or bite a kid's head off.

Anthony 05-31-2009 11:19 PM

Take Buddy to Dog school. Best money and bonding experience you will ever spend.

He is, but occasionally he switches sides or suddenly stops. On bicycle.

No shit. I have been lucky so far but I need to figure out something soon.

So, I guess no one has heard of one huh? Maybe I will make my own.

Deej 05-31-2009 11:49 PM

well - youre defeating the purpose of a leash then right? I mean sure you are setting a break away limit, but enough to not throw you on your ass isnt enough to keep him 'leashed'...

not sure what your solution is right off hand...

He doesn't have any tension on the leash until he decides he would rather run on the left instead of the right . . . or when he decides to go back.

He only made a sudden stop once, but that was enough to teach me a lesson. He doesn't need a leash as a restraint.

Then put that breakaway link there and have at it...

This is what you want.

Sounds like you need a Springer Site says it absorbs 90% of sudden tugs. http://www.springerusa.com/images/frontpic.jpg It has a safety release like you want. :thumbsup

nice hahahha...

Out of curiosity, what's your reason for riding a bike with the dog.

I wouldn't think the two activities at the same time makes for a good experience as you are finding out. If you get your exercise riding a bike, do that and then go walk the dog. If your riding a bike so the dog can run more I think that's over doing it. The dog can get enough exercise on a nice walk without a bike.

If you're just trying to kill two birds with one stone it might just end up something else besides a bird that gets killed :winkwink:

CurrentlySober 06-01-2009 07:02 AM

How the FUCK did you teach your dog to ride a Bike?

candyflip 06-01-2009 07:07 AM

Doesn't sound like you need a new leash, sounds like you need a course in walking a dog.

Remember, there are no bad dogs, only bad owners. :winkwink: (no pun intended)

You should train him not to pull.

get a prong collar. Just make sure you use it correctly. Most people have no idea how they are used because they don't come with instructions.

They go high on the neck, just under the ears. Use just enough links to make it snug. It's impossible for the dog to pull if its on correctly. If its loose and low on the neck, then it could become a choker(with prongs) and thats not good.

I trained my Lab with one when he was having pulling problems.
You should focus on some training, or he's going to pull your arm out, or get loose from you. If you want some tips other than the prong collar, let me know.

I don't know why but that really cracked me up.

pornguy 06-01-2009 07:54 AM

Running a dog like that is just wrong.

gornyhuy 06-01-2009 08:34 AM

I think we all know that this is for BD's auto-erotic-asphyxiation fetish... he wants to choke out when he beats off, but doesn't have a death wish.

:thumbsup Thank you. Just what I was looking for.

JenniDahling 06-01-2009 10:34 AM

You can also couple that with a non-pull harness that is actually better for the dog as well
