desktops are soon to be an archaic device that will only be used for certain tasks. they pretty much are already.

instead of redirecting your traffic to some other site why not make your sites mobile compatable and keep your traffic?

your loss.

Android will be able to play Flash in the near future.. it wont be long until most smartphones will be flash compatible.

Doing much converting beyond having all your content available in FLV format may not be necessary soon..


I agree that before long half or more of the traffic will be coming from "mobile" devices- smartphones, netbooks etc.

But I think they are likely to catch up to a "full web experience" faster than the adult biz will "convert to mobile format"

I think mobile will just increase traffic. Normal desktop/laptop traffic will still be there.

Remember the "paperless office" that has been coming for decades. Well, all those technologies came true pretty much but we still use as much paper as ever. If not more.

Easy enough to say. Top converting mobile sites optimize content delivery for all the top devices on the market by file type, file size, screen dimensions, etc. Not every site owner is ready to re-encode tons of content, re-design tons of graphics and customize transaction processing to work well across mobile devices.

And not every Webmaster runs paysites. It doesn't necessarily make sense for gallery owners and others to build custom mobile promos until they have the mobile traffic to justify the effort. I've been thinking about mobile for the past 8 years.

Many of the obstacles from 8 years ago are cleared now. But there are still some that can't be cleared and here is my opinion:

I will be turning 48 in Nov. In just the last 6 months my ability to see small things has decreased to the point that I now use over the counter reading glasses just to be able to type this.

I went to the eye doctor about 4 months ago asking what is wrong with me. He gave me a full examination and explained that I have perfect vision. BUT...EVERYBODY in the world has hardening of the lenses in the eyes as they age. It can happen in your 30's, 40's or 50's but regardless...it's gonna happen.

I can no longer read the date on a coin without putting on these $10 reading glasses. And I had to make the fonts a size 14 on my damn Blackberry Storm and I still have to strain to read them.

So...since most people with any real money or inclination to purchase porn are gonna be middle-aged men...I never see the mobile porn experience being as big as the "desktop" experience.

I do however think it's gonna be a big hit with younger guys. But not a "Most Of Your Traffic Will Be Mobile" situation.

And if it ever did go that way...won't all the guys who invested in HD and all of our high end resolution cameras feel awfully foolish? :1orglaugh

Don't get me wrong...I'm not saying that mobile isn't gonna be big. But not "most" of traffic by far. I think it's gonna be an increase of 5 to 10% in sales....at least until pornhub and redtube go "mobile" Then that will be gone too...

doesn't really matter. if you can get away from gfy for a second go dig around for some stats and prognostications on future mobile phone and desktop use and markets. thought i'd throw this out there. peace.

downloading and watching movies/clips on mobile phones has been very popular over here in the UK for some time now Im suprised adult hasent really caught up with it yet

The screen size is an issue with me as well. I can read it fine, it just gives me a headache.

But people who grew up staring at small screens probably don't care.

I bet it won't be long before they can put a little DLP chip inside a phone and you can project onto a wall a big 30 inch display.

I remember reading something about a virtual keyboard. The phone tracks your fingers on a desk and it's just like you are typing. If those two things can come together, A phone will probably be all you need.

I think mobile traffic will continue to grow, but everyone I know that has a phone they use to surf the web with also has at least one home computer.

Right now you can surf all day, but you can't download your torrents of movies and music you want for free on your phone so you still need at least a cheap computer to do that then you just transfer those files to your mobile phone.

the mobile phone won't fully remove the pc until it can do everything the pc does and with more and more people turning to the web as their primary source of entertainment they still want a bigger screen that they can watch movies on and play games on.

I guess the question is how long until we get a phone that can do everything a basic laptop does?

the big screen vs small screen debate is tired. people look at videos and pics on their phones. people purchase memberships from their phones. a large part of the future market will be mobile and non-desktop devices. no offence, but your personal preferences s a webmaster has little to do with the realities on the street

Well...I think calling it "the street" is a little overdramatic :1orglaugh

For me I'm thinking that the tube thing could be huge traffic. I can definitely see young guys showing tube vids to their friends on mobile and then going home and cranking up the PC for the "real" thing.

The other obstacle of course in the U.S. is speed. Yeah, I'm on a "3G" network with my Blackberry Storm. Still sucks ass. Once we catch up with Europe with our speeds then that obstacle will be out of the way. But for now, it feels like I'm surfing on a real good 56k dial up connection on my phone.

I'm taking inspiration from this post though and I'm busy right now getting my tube geared up for this. I'm not sure that my paysite will fare as well simply because of the fact that a LOT of what we do is so interactive with the members that it's simply not gonna translate on a phone screen even if a phone could view live streaming video (which it can't right now)

You are right, but it's not here yet. More Iphone, and G1/G2 phones will need to be on the market.

No sponsor has said anything to me about my mobile traffic.

Hell we blackberry people don't even have flash lite yet. So I can't watch any flash vids. :(

A lot of sponsors havent grasp the mobile technology yet
Take mobile games for instance it is a huge biz now but it took awhile for mainstream companys to realize the potential in making money from it
I think over the next 3-5 years more and more porn sponsors(and especially in the US) will realize the money they can make from dirty old men watching porn movies on mobiles.
I can remember about 4 years ago my son used to download Angry Kid and transfere it to his mobilephone, take it to school and show all of his mates. Angry kid on mobiles over here became fucking huge
