What is there to do in upstate New York?

I can drive to Plattsburgh in about 90 minutes. Not sure what border crossings are like these days though.

What's there to do in that area in the summer? Any family type day activities?

My father in law bought a house in the Adirondacks this past summer, closer to Lake George. Lake Champlain is great...rent a boat, good bars, weather is awesome this time of year. Great opportunity to get away :)

I'm in Montreal. I can get all of that in Mt. Tremblant.

I was thinking more along the lines of a day trip or something like that.

i would just go to burlington vermont and go to the magic hat brewery...its some tasty beer there isnt much to up in that part of NY unless you are into the outdoors, hiking, mt climbing

candyflip 06-16-2009 01:35 PM

That's upstate upstate. If you're the outdoorsy type, there's a ton to do. If you're not, I guess there's some nice scenery.

Watkins Glen has some hiking and boating (my girl used to be a director at an animal sanctuary up there, so i've spent a bit of time in the area). overall, i've never seen anything all that interesting other than some pretty good hiking.

That is real upstate. I was born in Rochester and lived up there but where you are going is the boondocks. Thank god you are going in Summer

smutnut 06-16-2009 03:53 PM

That's right up near Raybrook FCI. Between Lake Placid and Lake Saranac if I'm not mistaken. I studied the correctional arts up there as an involuntary student for about a year before they shipped me out to Boron FPC for another 6 months.

The best thing to do up there is drive threw it, then go somewhere better like NYC. Sure it'll be 12 hrs then, but what can you do up there besides watch flys fuck.

Evil Chris 06-16-2009 04:25 PM

I looked up the city activities for Plattsburgh... damn, you'd think the population was about 40.

Robbie 06-16-2009 04:34 PM

Last year when I was in New York for a week, I took the trains all over the city and never once saw this "upstate" that you speak of...

Mark Twain is buried in Watkins Glen. Noticed it on the GPS points-of-interest on the way back from Atlantic City to Niagara. Stopped by and saw his gravesite.

I am upstate upstate...I like it, been here all my life.

Now thats cool , he was the Main Man of his day :pimp

Evil Chris 06-17-2009 06:05 PM

Well hell we will probably just go up north to Tremblant anyway.

Furious_Male 06-17-2009 06:12 PM

The last time I was upstate I went to Gouverneur to visit a friend. I thought things were quiet in WNY its beyond boring up there unless you are into outdoor activities.

wiggitywack 06-17-2009 08:20 PM

Plattsburgh sucks...if you are gonna make the drive go to Burlington.
Good music scene there, good bars, on the lake.
Watkins Glen is beautiful, and a great day hike. It's also close to Ithaca and a bunch of wineries around the finger lakes but thats a much further drive for you from Montreal.
