Russian Mentality
Am I the only one who gets this feeling that all Russians try to always scam and/or find a scam everywhere?
I do a lot of public advertising on mainstream boards, and always there is that guy from Russia who comes up and tries to spill shit all over. Trying to find/expose a scam even though he's just passing by. Or plain old trolling threads. I'm seeing less of this on GFY, but it's still here. I speak several languages, one of which happens to be Russian. And I have couple of Russian channels on the sat, and whenever I turn them on, there's always some kind of depressing shit on there. They have a show called "Miracle Field" where people from really poor villages come to play "guess the word", competing for prizes like microwave ovens and grand-prizes like dishwashers. Then there's a show that's all about people who lost their someones and are trying to find them. The show basically tells stories of people who got "lost", some nasty shit. Is there something I'm not getting? Don't mean to be a troll myself and don't want to offend any comrades, this is just the tendency of Russian trolls I've been observing lately. |
If you thought Capitalism creates an agressive society try Communism. I think Tony Montana was from Cuba ;)

Miracle Field, god damn it! I recommend 'Malakhov Plus,' a really good show.

I do not like to stereotype people, but from personal experience, I would have to say this is true. Almost every Russian I have come in contact with online, had some form of illegal activity attached to him. When my dad went to Russia a few years ago, as he was walking the in airport, a guy approached him and asked for $20.. My dad said "why? who are you?" the guy replied "mafia".. my dad just ignored him, and of course nothing happened.

I lived there, and you gotta be on your toes dealing with Russians. They prefer to scam than work. They leave that to the peasants or they get out to America to live the dream...very often another scam. Its in the Russian soul, like Pushkin or something.

i like Russian mentality ;)

* I'm not calling all Russians scammers and thieves. Just the ones who've been greedy enough for me to notice them. |
It's only the struggle for survival. And it can be seen all around the world these days, not only Russia.
|
I worked with a Russian for 3 years, and he was the craftiest, most underhanded slime that ever stepped into an office. The shit he pulled, you wouldn't even see on a soap opera.
|
I knew two people irl that were Russian. One guy was pretty damn cool, and while he didn't scam his friends, he did scam on the company that he worked for, which I'm pretty sure was also Russian owned. So personally, I wouldn't call him a scammer, since he never scammed me.
The second guy, bleh. He would come to the pub my roommate and I use to shoot pool at all the time. He would play for money, and if you beat him, he would make up some excuse to go outside and then dip out. One time, we invited him and his buddy back to the house to play beer pong for money. Once he realized we were dominating him, he tried making up rules as we were playing. He lost, then was like "I gotta goto the ATM". We were like whatever dude, keep your $10. lol The only Russian person I know online is Cyber, and he's a good guy that helped me out a lot with his CyberSEO plugin. So props to him. 1/3 being shady isn't too bad. |
I almost got shot by some black guy in New Orleans last year. He wasn't Russian.
|
I can see why you feel the way you do, but if you were around more Russian people you might understand them a little better. As far as the internet goes...people are going to try and take advantage of someone if they can get away with it. C'mon there is no way the FBI is going to trace an IP address in Russia because some old lady gave away her pin number.
When I go to Coney Island, Brooklyn, NY it is rumored to be a ton of Russian mobsters over there...but no one really bothers you unless your looking for trouble. Also at my job the computer network guy is Russian and he is the nicest guy...and always helping me out with my personal computer issues. He helped me get rid of some sick spyware in my computers on his own time. I usually get along with all races. :2 cents: |

i've dealt with a fair number of Russians in the industry, designers, content customers, affiliates - never had one problem with any of them, which is more than I can say about other nationalities.
|
i have been working for years with a russian guy and he was the most hardworking and honest man i have ever been working with. also i have got to know russians with lower morals, but that type of guys you can probably find everywhere.
|
Maybe its not always like that cause im sure that you can`t generalize people. Its depend from the person

And i can assume that americans (whose remote ancestors came from Russia as well) are the most honest and modest people in the world:)
|
Have worked with both...honest and scammers...and I could say the same if the thread was about Americans. (But I would add that the baseline reality that most Russians grew up under would understandably lead some to act differently than Americans who grew up in a free, capitalist society.)
.....wondering if Serge is asleep.... lol |
People that hate or dislike whole races/countries/nationalities simply have small cocks and no money, but what is even worse is that they would always blame someone else for tehir small cocks and the lack of money.

I am glad that some people understand me, and no, I'm not a stereotype, this is just something I got from actual experience. |
Russians won't just cheat you for 20 bucks, they would prefer billions. The scammy fucks penetrate all levels of society in russia. Ikea was just cheated out of millions.
Heard of one guy who went to do business in Russia, and decides to have his wedding there. The whole crew of workers, decide to get drunk in the kitchen instead of preparing food. When guests arrive no booze, no food. Damn fuckers.... You can still make money dealing with russians, you just gotta keep track of how much they steal. Some 90's stock wizards made fortunes on russian stocks. I remember one of them saying: "Oh, I know russian management steals from their companies... But there's still enough money left for the stocks to rise". |
I am married to a beautiful russian girl. That I like. :) In my experience there are some pro's and cons with russians (as with others).
When you get a russian friend, he or she is often a truly good friend that is there for you all the time and will go far to help if needed. Russians are friendly, they share whatever they have if poor and they are fun to drink with. What I don't like about russians is the constant focus on money! In everything they do or talk about, there is always a money issue! And the fact that it seems to me that the russians who have some (or much) money, just HAVE to show everyone this! It looks like the most important thing is to have more and better stuff than your neighbour and friends. I just hate that, because believet it or not, I am not in love with money! So, if I was doing business i Russia, well.... I would be carefull! Just google for "telenor+russia" and read. But, overall - normal russians, ukrainians and belarussians are fantastic people! ANd the girls are HOT! |

If you carefully follow business news, you would know that when huge corporations go to certain parts of the world to do business, they bring money for bribes etc. Do you think I should value your "safe" opinion more than theirs? Remember corporations have to live in the *real* world or they don't make money! |

Most Russians are fucking twats, I know. I went to russian school, because of my dickhead father, goddamn I hope that retard gets gangraped by russian mafia one day.
|
Oh... and let's not forget that fucking Pavel Chekov! -- Oh, wait... bad example. :disgust
|
That hasn't been my experience. Just sayin'

I'm a Russian Jew so I think I'm the scammiest of all. :)
In all honesty, I grew up in a Russian community and although there are scammers (insurance fraud type stuff is rampant in my parents' zipcode), the vast majority are decent people. It's all about how you're raised. My parents came to America, assimilated, and raised us to work honestly for our money. My mom always asks me if what I do for work is legal, heh. |

I know a Russian Programmer that is Awesome. BUSTS his ASS and does amazing work. And so does his team. But it took him some time to find the guys he has now.
|
weird...every russian i have ever met and dealt with has been very honourable and fair
half the scammers are actually people from other countries who just pretend to be russian |
What people say about Russians is no different from what people have been saying for years about italians and jews. I can't tell you how many times I've heard, "just like an Italian, always wanting something for nothing."
Scammers come from all countries. I actually find russian culture very fascinating and have a few Russian, Ukranian and Belarusian friends. The only thing culture wise that really rubs me the wrong way is their strong sense of nationalism. They are very "us against the world", so best not to bring up politics. |

I have lived and worked around Russian people exclusively for more than 10 years and I can honestly say that the best of them are cynical and vicious inbreeds who aspire to little more than street thuggery and petty thievery while the worst of them are pathetic incoherent drunks. I guess that is why I have always felt so at home amongst them. :)
