Lunker Bass caught this weekend!

This weekend I had a great time battling this killer bass.. I was out for 4 hours fishing and this was the ONLY fish I caught..

I got him on a green and yellow kreature bait finessing it through the water near an area where there was a deep drop off from the shore.

He put up one hell of a fight, I had a medium heavy berkley rod with 8lb test line.. This guy was freakin me out because the rod was at a full U-bend and it was starting to creak like it was gonna snap.. I got this sucker up to the shore and just as he came out of the water he thrashed and snapped the line..

I was shitting myself, and just as I was about to panic he opened his huge mouth and I reacted with split second decision and I reached down into the water and stuck my hand in his mouth and yanked him out of the water and ran away from the shore with him so there was no chance he could get away again..

I needed to hold him with two hands at one point because he was thrashing so hard.. Here he is, hope you enjoy! I'd say it was at least 8-10lbs because of the length and the very large girth..

Yep, catch and release.. fun for another day for me or someone else..

Boozer 07-06-2009 10:26 AM

good man.. wish more people would practice catch and release.

Me and my buddies hold a trout tournament amongst ourselves every year. Only requirements are

A: must be larger then 19"
B: must eat said fish

you can see where it would get out of hand if people are keeping fish for the sake of winning

Sweet! Awesome looking bass, I LOVE the look of the lake in the background pic. Have you ever tried Popper lures? These are so much fun to fish with. I caught a bass once about the same size as your's on a jig-n-pig. Pissed alot of guys off..LOL! Catch and release, now I'm just wating for my two son's to get old enough to fish, and it's on!

Congrats!:thumbsup

Babaganoosh 07-06-2009 12:50 PM

Nice fish. Glad you catch and release too. I do the same. Not because I am a hippy or anything but because I don't want to clean the nasty bastards. I'll hit red lobster if I want to eat fish.

We don't have Bass around here .. Salmon and Trout species mainly . ( Pacific coast .) Do people eat Bass .. I have never heard of or eaten it .. if so .. I would assume it is boney and tough skinned .. ??

jmcb420 07-06-2009 05:00 PM

nice catch, man.
Good pic too. Congrats!

I'm in the Pacific Northwest.. Oregon.. You probably have Bass in BC, but you're just not looking in the right places for them..

Bass are not that great to eat from what I've heard.. I'm more catch and release kinda guy anyways unless its Sturgeon or good ocean fish..

Steelhead are pretty good eating if they're cooked right though..

I was just tellin' this girl that the other day - what a coincidence!

BTW, nice bass! Last time I went out I got four, around 2lbs. each. Nice, but nothing like that one.

See, there ya go! Now just get yourself some lures and head on out.. alot of the coastal lakes carry decent size bass around here.. honestly much better than I've caught down in California where there are warmer waters..
