I think it's telling that the makers of Twitter named it as such because thats what they called the process themselves.. twittering. They would twitter short messages back and forth. So what does the public do? Make up their own new word for it.. tweet..
When you're on the verge yourself, you might have it all sewn up, but the moment a third party observes it.. it's changed forever. Must be that whacky uncertainty principle at work or somethin.

I just read a book about The Doors and although i don't exactly get off on Jim Morrison or so, there's a pretty good quote, something among the lines that:

"people are loosing the sense of reality, they are concentrating on TV, movies, pop idols and get emotional about all kinds of symbols, but in the reality of their lives they're emotionally dead"

And this was dated about 1967, the whole "virtual ego" madness on the web brought this to brand new levels...

I see more and more people being more concerned if they have their new pics and enough friends and "kudos" and bullshit on their facebook than if they made anything worth mentioning on that particular day..

My wife and I were just sayin' the same thing the other day.

There's an entirely new generation of automatons who don't really do or accomplish anything tangible or noteworthy themselves - but think their involvement in these various social networking sites is somehow constructive.

So, doesn't it make sense that you learn to market to them?

Like someone said already, people seem more worried about how many friends or how many pics they have on their page, rather than actually doing something a little more productive.

I will never like those sites, although i do accept it's how things are gonna be. For a while anyway. Adapting to them is one thing, actually liking anything about them in another...
