I caught the ultimate buzz today with pics to prove it!
Met this man today at his book signing.
It's hard to comprehend what he has experienced. A true American Hero. A Pioneer for mankind. http://www.thewoop.com/public_html/p...uzz_Aldrin.jpg http://www.thewoop.com/public_html/p...zz_Aldrin2.jpg |

In case you didn't make the connection that is Buzz Aldrin who was the second man to step foot on the moon and that's only because the first guy was closer to the door :winkwink: |
Where's that clip of him punchin' some guy who asked him if they faked the moon landing...
|
How did he sound? I heard a (very brief) radio interview with him recently and he sounded a little out of it.

That's so cool! :) I heard on NPR yesterday that the guy who started PayPal (???) is working on space tourism to Mars and the moon, as opposed to Virgin, which will just be space tourism that shoots you into orbit. Crazy, huh?
Anyway, sweet that you got to see him in person! :) |

He had 1 1/2 hours to sign books with about 400 - 500 people in line.
First thing he did when he arrived was grab a mic and start to say a few things which then seemed to turn into his life story. While he is not an eloquent speaker you could sense his sincerity and his willingness to share his experiences as if it were his duty. If he had a few drinks in him he probably would've went on forever but that wasn't the case. He may be a recovering alcoholic. Seems at least one of the lunar walkers had a drinking problem but I don't know if it was him. One thing he said was that he thought that going back to the Moon was a waist of time and money and that we should be putting all our effort into putting a man on Mars. At the end of his speech he said he had a little of everything to share including some rap. He said don't get your hopes up because Snoop Dog wasn't here but he had a little rap of his own and they turned on the sound system and played HIS rap song he made about space. While I'm old enough to have watched men like Buzz Aldrin, John Glenn and Chuck Yeager do their thing when it happened I never really appreciated what they did until recent. These men strapped themselves onto the tip of rockets and flew into space or tested experimental aircraft sometimes having to eject from the cockpit as the plane went out of control. This particular man stepped foot on the moon. It was a very humbling experience to be in the presence of such greatness :) |
