Dating 2009 vs. dating in the past
 

Here's an 'in theory' question/observation...

I'm not big on nightclubs/bars to meet women, I usually do better through business, mutual friends, at the grocery store, or walking the dog, but recently I've had several occassions to go out to clubs with buddies and I've noticed a strange thing... There are few if any singles out there. Everything's couples. (And this is Vegas, the 'locals' hangouts, not the tourist traps)

A friend in L.A. is reporting the same thing going on there. So my question for discussion is this:

Has online dating really hurt the brick and morter club scene? Seems like it has. Most people I know that have recently met their S/O have met online. Seems to be where everybody's at these days. I'm curious.

Opinions?

I don't think it's hurt the scene financially. People still go to clubs, just for different reasons. Clubs always have high turn-around. In most cities, no matter how popular a club is, they still never last more than a few years. A new one always replaces it though, so I think the 'scene' is here to stay no matter how big idating gets.

i think with the ease of finding people online, its a lot easier to meet up with people then go out. my friend recruits girls all the time from myspace, facebook and match.com to go out with.

ive noticed the same thing here, but i dont know if its now a social stigma to go out "single" or not. the one bar by me used to always be full of single girls, for about the past 2 years its more of a couples bar to watch a band.

my :2 cents: is now bars are were you go to first interact with someone you find, rather than going there to find someone.

Interesting question. I do not believe it has simply because if you are dating or looking you are not going to limit your options. There is a great deal to be said about meeting in person for chemistry vs. online. Keep options open and I think you'll find most in clubs do both.
