Does anybody know wtf this creature is my dog just brought in? (Photos)
I noticed what at first glance looked like a piece of shit on the bed, but at closer inspection it was a weird, living creature. It looked like a cross between a snake and a centipede/insect of some kind.
Anyone out there have a clue what the hell it could be? It displayed regenerative properties, as it's tail was starting to grow back after I assume being bitten off by my dog. We're taking the dog to the vet right now just in case the creature could be toxic. http://www.keithbussey.com/tmp/IMG_0822.JPG http://www.keithbussey.com/tmp/IMG_0824.JPG http://www.keithbussey.com/tmp/IMG_0825.JPG |

I don't know wtf it is, but it is grosscusting! |
thats the most fucked up thing ive seen all day.
Damn, no idea... but it looks cool. Maybe some kind of caterpillar?
heh i dont think a creature regenerates before the naked eye or even overnight , unless its microscopic.
but i think its a caterpillar pupae ( before its a butterfly ) http://www.thisland.illinois.edu/50ways/images/14b.jpg |
that's a new species right there
Yeah, it must be some kind of caterpillar. I've just found some similar...

The eyes are the fucked up part... I see caterpillars type things like that all the time but never with big ass bug eyes.

it looks like it has lips to wtf!
ooh crap wtf :) let us know how does it taste? :)
looks like a lava of something
It's 100% certainly a caterpillar. His real eyes are tiny and hard to see. Those huge "eyes" are just markings on his body to make him appear to have larger eyes and therefore be a much larger/more dangerous/difficult to eat animal.
how long it is ?
That thing is nasty
that thing is fn sick and it's gonna be the star of my nightmares tonight no doubt. Andrew Zimmern would eat it

It's a moth caterpillar of some sort, obviously grows its wings after a short period.
I found something similar recently :thumbsup |

And vinegar, I know he has lots of that :1orglaugh See you soon Keith, looking forward to it brother. |
LOL, my god yall are so silly. :)
It's merely a larva (caterpillar) of one of your native species of swallowtail butterflies. The eyespots are used as deterrents against predators, much like those of many moths in the Saturniidae family. The entomology site I contribute taxonomic data to does not cover Central American insects, but I'm going to look around and see if I can nail down a specific genera for you. At any rate, no need to freak out - if you happened to know what it's host plant was you could rear it into adulthood. I'll post again shortly. :) |
I was close :D
This is the thing i come across here in the UK.

i'd hit it!
I can't find a perfect match to that larva, but I know it's some swallowtail (Papilionidae) genera.
On another note, I'm trying to rear 40-50 Automeric cecrops pamina larvae, which look like this: http://www.saturniidae-moths.de/Lepi.../Apaminara.jpg |
