Protecting Your Content
 

Here is a good reason to stop complaining about your content getting stolen and do something about it.

I've taken a lot of steps to keep our stuff from being stolen and put up all over the internet. If they want to see CM's latest updates they need to buy a membership (the way it's supposed to be)

I've documented on GFY several times all the things I did and the results. At first I had a few "big" guys tell me it wouldn't work...now a lot of those same guys ask me how to do it. :)

Anyway, Claudia-Marie has an email form in her members area so that her members can email her (as long as they are a member that is). And she gets these kind of emails a lot. She got this one from a new member last night... I've edited out the names of the "bad" websites & any personal info, but you get the idea:

I had to read it more than once but it still doesn't make complete sense.
the new user is listing multiple sites he checked to download CM shit, but it wasn't there.
That doesn't really tell me how you keep your content off the illegal sharing sites though, just a thank you email from a user who wasnt smart enough to find it....

robbie... i have no idea what your talking about. Protect members area by making all vids flash...

If we remove the option to download the video, we fear it will kill us. Streaming alone, just doesn't seam to satisfy our customers.

I have not tried this but, what if...

When a member joins, he gets streaming only and photo sets. If you allow the photo zips or not is your call. If he stays for 1 month, he can then download the video. Or hell, 2 months.

It would not stop guys from stealing and reposting your content, but think of how many guys join for one month only, steal EVERYTHING you have, post it all and you lose. It would cut those guys out. Fuck those guys. The most important thing right now is for everyone to get their content OFF the tubes, OFF the torrents and stop being given away for free.

Not a perfect plan by any means, but it's a start.

I'm 100% all for streaming only and have some new sites that will do this, but WHEN/IF they can download is still up in the air. Sure, it will piss off some guys, but think of the larger picture here and your long term business. I'm willing to lose some in order to secure my place a few years more in this industry. I think if everyone did this, the industry could gain a few steps.

I know Robbie has had great success with what he is going. If it works for him, it HAS to work for everyone else. IT HAS TO!!! That is adapting to the current situation. Kudos to Robbie and CM for having the balls (and knockers) to put this into play.

To add... they caused a lot of this mess, now they are going to have to adapt just the way we are. EVERYONE is going to have to change, not just us. Members are going to have to adapt as well.

How much longer do you think we can hold out like this? 2 years? 4 years? Fucking IMAGINE the state of things in 4 more years if EVERYONE doesn't start protecting their content in some manner. HOLY SHIT!!! Probably more than 50% of you will be out of business.

That's why you don't just stream it. First off you stream it in a way that it can't be downloaded. Just streaming it "normally" is easy to steal with a couple of clicks with dozens of free softwares.

Then you give them a downloadable version of a lower quality and resolution that is heavily over-watermarked


Now to the rest of you guys who didn't understand what I was saying...I'm pointing out that a members area only has value to it IF it's not completely ripped and available for free everywhere. And no "Twig" that member isn't too stupid to find the stuff. The only stuff in our members area that is out there is OLD stuff. None of the new updates...and the old ones come down just as fast as RYC can dmca them down.

The point is, that there IS something that can be done without waiting on the govt. to do it for you while you go bankrupt. And despite a lot of programs fears...lsuch as the fear that Erasmo expressed...the members actually APPRECIATE the fact that your shit isn't out there all over the web for free. As I said many months ago: Nobody wants a membership that is worthless. And if the entire thing is available everywhere for free...then your membership is just that, worthless. Hope that makes more sense, since I obviously somehow missed communicating the point: Signups and rebills.

i dont understand why there is no option in strongbox or why there is no new script, that allow you to put members hash to anything he download, to random place in the file and it can be crypted also, so it will be almost impossible to find it but if you will see any stolen content, you will be able catch the original member. then you have to do the next steps ... blacklist of people who are sharing material all around the paysites and people will think next time if they want to be on this list ...

That's something that doesn't exist and may or may not work. What I've done does work and is the reason I don't get pissed off about tubes and torrents anymore. I was ready to kill some people about a year ago. Now I just find myself wishing that the hundreds of programs that I'm an affiliate of would do something like I did so I could start making sales with them again from my traffic.
