Who here can afford not going to Walmart?

I mean I am not cheap, but 4 bucks for 6 pair of brand socks?

fuzebox 08-26-2009 07:29 AM

Walmart socks are horrible! I've had dozens of pairs fall apart, lose their softness, stretch out, turn weird colors etc after a few washes...

Now I pay more for better quality socks and my feet are happy.

L-Pink 08-26-2009 07:30 AM

I can proudly say I never shop at walmart.

garce 08-26-2009 07:52 AM

Although I generally can't stand WalMart, I got pissed off at the idiots at Future Shop and Best Buy while I was looking for a new television.

I went to the WalMart at Warden and Eglinton and - oddly enough - started talking to a guy that worked there who actually knew the products he was selling and could answer my questions.

So I bought the damned TV at WalMart.

On top of that, the television I bought went on sale about a month later. I took my receipt to customer service and the lady behind the desk credited my Visa $140.

baddog 08-26-2009 07:54 AM

In CA - never Walmart
In IN - not much choice.

camchoice 08-26-2009 07:54 AM

we're on our way!

CDSmith 08-26-2009 08:07 AM

I think I've been in a wal-mart maybe 3 or 4 times since they first opened here. Can't remember how long it's been since the last time, maybe 2 years?

Wasn't for socks, that much I know. Quality over quantity and all that.

Mr Pheer 08-26-2009 08:17 AM

I wont go to walmart unless its just the last damn resort for something I really need right away.

The merchandise is mostly garbage, the employees mostly dont know shit about anything, I feel like I'm surrounded by trailer park population in there, and it takes longer to check out than it does to shop.

Fuck that place.

Lace 08-26-2009 08:17 AM

I live out in the sticks, so the best place to shop is Walmart. It's a one stop shop place. I don't have to run around to a ton of different places and it's usually the cheapest prices around here. Sadly enough, I've been there at least 10 times in the last week.

woj 08-26-2009 08:17 AM

you get what you pay for, sure the socks are cheap, but you wear them once or twice and then they fall apart...

Walmart has been the death of small towns :2 cents:

CurrentlySober 08-26-2009 08:23 AM

No Walmart in the UK...

GetSCORECash 08-26-2009 08:25 AM

Target -- is cheaper and cleaner for me.

Tom_PM 08-26-2009 08:29 AM

I reject the premise that walmart is more affordable.

viki 08-26-2009 08:29 AM

I try to avoid Walmart as much as possible. However, when I need something late at night when everything else is closed, I do go there. Now I live near a 24 hour pharmacy so it doesn't really happen.

Vjo 08-26-2009 08:29 AM

Walmart every 2 weeks.

Last night the 20 year old bottom seals in the toilet tank started to leak at about 10:00 pm. Walmart was about all that was open for a few miles around.

Got a repair kit at walmart at about 2am :thumbsup

Yo Adrian 08-26-2009 08:32 AM

I spend a few hundred at walmart every month, I support a family of 5 and in a recession. There's a reason why walmart is the biggest retailer in the world.

Never go there unless I have to

Been maybe 2x this year

LiveDose 08-26-2009 08:54 AM

I still shop there for certain things but mostly go to the price clubs and buy in bulk.

Deesnuts 08-26-2009 09:14 AM

I grew up in central PA for most of my life and walmart was always part of life. there was no target, so when you needed to buy body wash, file folders and a 36" bouncey ball you went to walmart

when i moved to LA, I could only find one walmart that was in central LA. It was not even open 24/7... then i discovered other stores and didnt look back. i had to go to Ralhps for my 24/7 needs :winkwink:

when i moved back to PA, I almost forgot just how necessary walmart is to a lot of people. there is a huge one about a mile from my house, has a full grocery store, deli, meats, etc. I personally dont like walmart and like buying my groceries from a grocery store

candyflip 08-26-2009 09:31 AM

I avoid Walmart like the plague. Target usually sucks an hour or two of my time and a few hundred bucks each week.

BlackCrayon 08-26-2009 09:32 AM

i buy stuff at walmart but never clothes.

Spunky 08-26-2009 09:44 AM

They have these huge jars of pickles for 5 bucks that I like

Horny Dude 08-26-2009 10:10 AM

I go for everyday things; cereal, cleaning supplies, personal products, and stuff like that. You can say what you want about walmart, but dam you save a few bucks going.

DaddyHalbucks 08-26-2009 10:19 AM

Walmart rocks, but not for socks.

Rochard 08-26-2009 10:20 AM

I try to avoid WalMart in the same way I try to avoid getting herpes. We have a Target two blocks from us, and we shop there often.

I can't stand WalMart. It always seems to me like half of the people there are mentally retarded, including the staff.

tony286 08-26-2009 10:22 AM

We r target people.the walmarts around me are dirty.

Jensen 08-26-2009 10:25 AM

We don't have walmart up here but I'd be sceptic based on their blacklisting with major investment funds.

"last June, Norway added Wal-Mart Stores to its blacklist, alleging that the retailer was guilty of tolerating child-labor violations by its suppliers in the developing world and obstructing unions at home. The fund sold off more than $400 million worth of Wal-Mart shares."

WiredGuy 08-26-2009 10:35 AM

I refuse to go to Walmart unless its like 2am. During regular hours, the place is a nuthouse.

I remember a story where they bought a bag of chips or something from walmart, and the same physically sized bag of chips from a grocery store. The one from walmart looked the same, but it was less net weight in the bag. Doing the math showed that the cost would have been about the same if they had the same actual contents. Just sayin, double checking might be worthwhile.

flashfire 08-26-2009 10:37 AM

nothing wrong with going to walmart for certain things

potter 08-26-2009 10:47 AM

I don't go to walmart unless I need something right away and it's late enough to where all the other stores are closed. Or once every three months for rabbit food (they have these gigantic bags compared to petsmart/petco).

I probably spend about $40/year there, and it bothers me to even spend that little amount. I haaaaaaaaaaaaaate walmart.

Achmed's Wife Halimah 08-26-2009 10:49 AM

FLASHBACK!

james_clickmemedia 08-26-2009 10:55 AM

I prefer target than walmart however as walmart is the nearest supermarket I do end up showing there sometimes for convenience.

Wizzo 08-26-2009 11:00 AM

Just print out a bingo card before you go and it makes it much more fun...:pimp

Up here the stores are required to do the math for you and put up the price per liter, price per kilo etc etc. Problem is quality...

rayadp05 08-26-2009 11:11 AM

I make a very good income and I don't mind going to Walmart at all. Just depends on what I am going to buy. I wouldn't buy my shoes there though. But as far as food, music cd's, movies....works fine for me. Have bought a few shirts from there as well.

Vicious_B 08-26-2009 11:14 AM

I am dangerous in Walmart. I go in for 2 things and $150 later....

L-Pink 08-26-2009 11:19 AM

If you are a taxpayer and think walmart saves you money think again. The social programs their underpaid and non/under insured employees use cost your state 10's of millions a year.

PornMD 08-26-2009 11:19 AM

Walmart in smaller cities I'm sure probably gets all types coming in because there's usually not too many options, but it seems that in larger cities it's fuckin' white trash/poor people galore, so I rarely go...just too depressing. Anything that would be in a grocery store I get at Stater Bros for about the same price. The only time I ever get anything there is T-shirts and occasionally gifts for people. They are the cheapest for most of what they have, but I rarely go there without waiting 10 mins in the checkout line and making way through people in the aisles is a pain in the ass.

kristin 08-26-2009 11:24 AM

I'm a Target person.

L-Pink 08-26-2009 11:28 AM

Attention walmart shoppers ... thanks for helping our trade deficit with communist china increase.

Wal Mart is China’s seventh largest export market. It bought $18 billion in goods from China in 2005 and $22 billion in 2006. More than 12 percent of China’s exports to the United States end up at Wal Mart stores.

Raf1 08-26-2009 11:31 AM

don't have them here :)

C H R I S 08-26-2009 11:38 AM

Newver been will never go. They are whats wrong with the world

L-Pink 08-26-2009 11:39 AM

As liberal and pro human rights as most posters here are the fact remains wal-mart is cheap because they under pay everyone they come into contact with. Happy fucking shopping.

SHENZHEN, China -- Inside the factory, amid clattering machinery and clouds of sawdust, men without earplugs or protective goggles feed wood into screaming electric saws, making cabinets for stereo speakers. Women hunch over worktables, many hands bandaged and few covered by gloves, pressing transistors into circuit boards.

Most of the 2,100 workers here are poor migrants from the countryside who have come to this industrial hub in southern China for jobs that pay about $120 a month. A sign on the wall reminds them of their expendability in a nation with hundreds of millions of surplus workers: "If you don't work hard today, tomorrow you'll have to try hard to look for a job."

"The profit is really small," said Surely Huang, a factory engineer, speaking of the 350,000 stereos that Fenda agreed in March to supply to the retailer for $30 to $40 each. Huang said they sell for $50 in the United States. "We have to constantly cut costs to satisfy Wal-Mart."
