UhOh, Gmail Down For Anyone Besides Me?

I knew there was a reason I fought going to gmail for so long.

AIbenjamink 09-01-2009 12:59 PM

It is surprising how many companies rely on Gmail and other free providers, instead of their own servers.

iTouch! 09-01-2009 01:00 PM

seems to be true

Joe_Blow 09-01-2009 01:01 PM

At least if your box crashes, the data is still on their servers. :2 cents:

svzcom 09-01-2009 01:04 PM

I have all that but I have so many different email addresses, I just have everything forward to my gmail account. Was working great for me till just now. :-)

Oh well. I'm sure it'll be back shortly.

This is where they lose confidence from people when they talk about running all of your apps on their servers.

areagirls 09-01-2009 01:05 PM

made me realize just how reliant I was on gmail!

alias 09-01-2009 01:06 PM

I always say google sucks balls, but really they are pretty decent. No one can be up 100%.

alias 09-01-2009 01:06 PM

Google apps are down too.

hypedough 09-01-2009 01:10 PM

Gmail is going to start charging on relaunch. Panic.

eroticsexxx 09-01-2009 01:24 PM

There was a major hiccup on the web with certain providers just a short while ago...

It wasn't only Gmail.

Investigating now...

mx8829 09-01-2009 01:25 PM

Lol @ saying never rely on Google with your email.

Do any of you guys who say that know, Google has by far the best uptime ever in the history of the internet? If you can find a web host who is that fucking awesome to host my email at, and is free, maybe I'll switch. Probably not.

You can also host your domain based emails and catch-alls at google apps with some simple ns entries.

Yes, 5 to 10 hours of downtime a year is HORRIBLE.

I used to work for a Fortune 500 that had email problems daily.

What's your point?

CunningStunt 09-01-2009 02:16 PM

Working now.

epitome 09-01-2009 02:17 PM

...how long until the government says "and this is why we need to be able to take control of the Internet in cases of emergencies?"

They will use people going ape shit crazy on Twitter as a talking point.

I was one of those people that mentioned gmail down on Twitter. ;)
