A young woman who won over $3 million in the lottery when she was just 16 says she blew it all on wild shopping sprees, breast implants and cocaine.

Rogers, from Cumbria in northwest England, was a shop assistant when she hit the jackpot in 2003. Now 22 and the mother of two young children, she says she has about $32,000 left.

There are many cases of multi-million lottery winners becoming bankrupt.
If you are not used to money and suddenly have millions to spend, it's very easy to screw up. They should include financial advisers with high lottery winners.
People that win 10 million think 'i have 5 million for a house, 2 million for a boat, a nice car, etc' but they forget that with a 5 million dollar house you also need some staff for the garden, the pool, and just the yearly costs of maintenance on the house are huge already. Same with a boat, lots of costs for maintenance, staff, the money it costs to have it in the harbor etc. And before they know it they have nothing left.

the lottery issue, illustrates the problem with socialism. you can't just put money into random peoples pockets and expect them to know what to do with it, or to act responsibly with it. that knowledge primarily comes from the experience of earning it, learning to act responsibly with it and learning to manage it.

its largely dumb/deluded and desperate people that buy lottery tickets. and the decision to buy a lottery ticket or not has absolutely nothing to do with the individuals understanding money management, finance, investing/saving and acting responsibly... which is why almost all of these people end up broke and in debt in a couple years, regardless of the sum they win.

There is no "curse of the lottery" most people when they get a hold of large sum
of instant cash are retards about spending it . If you do some proper planning hire
financial advisors ect ... you will do okay and depending how much and how old you are , should be able to live comfortable for rest of your life .
You just mostly hear in the public / media about fools going broke after few years more often then responsible people who actually do something smart about their cash cause there is no big story headline to that .
The majority of regular people who win a large amount of money will just spend it right away on stupid crap .....

Not to point out the obvious but investing wisely has taken a big hit lately. Anyone watching the news? Stocks, real estate, hedge funds? I am not sure what you would expect a 16 year old to do with that kind of cash and she is only 22 so she just goes on. She has enough to go to college for a year or two.
