She is the biggest selling artist in the world over the last year. Her arena tour sold out in minutes across the country. She is a big deal, but is mostly played on country stations.

He rocked?

To each his own, but I thought he made himself look like a boorish ass.

Which is indeed nothing out of the ordinary for him.

seeric 09-13-2009 06:59 PM

But still there were others that sell more than Taylor Swift and could have won the award. As I said it before, i don't like lady gaga at all, but i bet she is more famous than Taylor Swift.
Anyway, I don't care :)

ADSinc 09-13-2009 07:16 PM

Taylor Smith or Swift?

Like I said, to each their own. :)

MTV stopped being anything having to do with music long enough ago that some of you were probably infants at the time, so I don't care anything about the awards. They are meaningless, imho. I watched to see the MJ tribute, and turned if off as soon as it was done.

I simply think that if he had something to say about the awards selection that a press announcement after the fact would have been a more appropriate platform for his views. But for whatever reason, he chose to disrespect a 19 year old fellow artist on stage at a live event.

This is in response to this and your last reply to me. First when I said across the country I meant the US, but her overseas dates have sold out very quickly as well.

As for sales, over the last 2 years there is nobody in the world that has sold more records than Taylor Swift. Lady Gaga has sold around 3 million copies of her most recent record. In that same amount of time Swift has sold about 9 million copies of her record and has sold out an arena tour across the nation (meaning every night she is playing in front of 15,000 or more people)

But, as I said, she is considered mostly a country artist, although she has crossed over into pop and mainstream big time. I'm not a big country fan, but my brother and his family are and she is all I ever hear about from her 12 year old daughter :)

All this said, I have no idea how MTV even has a music video awards show since they don't even play music videos.

kane 09-13-2009 07:25 PM

I wonder what he would do if someone did that to him?

So you didn't see this happening? As now you said you turned your tv off after MJ tribute, and this was before. Regarding this - I liked Madonnas speech but not the part with the hands - it sounded like a joke and that was a serious moment. But all the rest was cool, and Janet was great by doing this, I guess it was hard for her!

I have watched the videos posted around since it first hit twitter.

docputer 09-13-2009 07:32 PM

19 year old Taylor Swift writes all her own stuff, and her last album has sold 4 million.
Her record sales have recently topped 10 million with 20 million in paid downloads. She debuted as a country artist, but is also crossing over to pop

http://www.reuters.com/article/press...09+PRN20090908

Beyonce is a fine artist, but they just aren't in the same genre.

Kanye showed a total lack of class, whether Swift deserved the award or not, he should have kept his mouth shut till after the show.

Kanye wasn't thinking (no surprise there) and doesn't realize that the demographic that Taylor Swift's video appeals to is far larger than the demographic that Beyonce's does.

Look at it from a numbers aspect and this is clearly seen.

Sorry, was distracted and hit send instead of preview on last post.

Yeah, I liked the majority of the Madonna speech very much and thought she was dead on with most of it. But that part about hand holding verged on self-serving, I thought. Not sure if that is the right term, but that is the closest I can think of right now.

The part where Janet danced with him was undoubtedly very hard for her to do, and it was hard to watch from the perspective of being a MJ fan.

L-Pink 09-13-2009 07:45 PM

I don't even know - Is Kanye such a good friend of Beyonce? Or maybe of Jay Z :) ?

Same here - like she wanted to say 'even MJ wanted me'. Anyway, she shouldn't say something like that now, even if that hand thing really happened.

He just reacted emotionally. That's all.

He believes in his own egotistical world that what he likes must be "the most awesome ever"!

Reality will be quite hard on him when his delusions fade.

That's a guarantee.

Watch carefully what the music industry and fans do to those with his sort of attitude. He isn't the new guy who is "hungry" and "simply trying to make it" anymore.

They did it to Diddy when he started to act up, but luckily he caught on fast.

Tonight's booing was just a taste of the backlash...

I'm not into the industry at all, that's why I'm not so updated, I just catch things that I see by mistake on TV. I like real rap, the 80s - 90s rap, that's what I listen to, and that's what I care about :) And that's not an industry, that's music, pure music.

Look back to the drama in Diddy's life around the time that he was dating Jennifer Lopez and thinking that he had finally made it. There was that shooting at a club that Shyne did some time for and then Diddy started "wilding out" and was really getting in trouble with the law for assault and some other stuff.

He finally started to calm down right before he launched his series "Making the Band" and the failure of that really set him "straight". He saw that he wasn't "invincible" and had to act like a businessman.

Kanye, had better pay attention and deflate the ego a bit. Jay-Z and 50 Cent are two other good examples of rappers who caught on quickly to the business game and it has been proven to be in their best interests.

I must agree with you now.
Have you seen Jay-Zs performance? I wasn't impressed... I thought I'll see something interesting as it was kept as the final moment but nothing special, like the whole VMA :Oh crap

Phallus Fondue 09-13-2009 08:49 PM

if the award was for video of the year and not song or whatever else and you honestly think beyonce had a good video let alone one of the best of all times then perhaps you should be asking your parents which one of them dropped you on your head as an infant and did it happen more than once.

She knows this. It's a character. It's what works for her. All of these people are normal just like us. They are performers.

I would have figured that Twitter finally taught everybody that. When Hollywood people are sitting at home tweeting ... and not out doing blow and hookers. Well, some of them do that, as we learned from the most recent sex tape that didn't really show any sex.

1. I don't use tweeter :) 2.They are all performers on stage & in front of the camera but at home are just simple people like you and me and everybody else. But I wasn't talking about who she is when she is hanging out with her family, I was talking about her performance, which I think that crosses some lines that shouldn't be crossed.

I didn't say I like Beyonce's video, or Taylor's video. And yes, Kanye's part with 'ever' is 'too much'.
And regarding the last part, I think my parents could show me better songs than the ones that are released today, but most of those old great songs have videos = scenes from concerts, and nowadays we could find some good videos (but not good songs). But I guess in music industry people can't give an award only for 'best song' or only for 'best video' or only for 'artist of the year' because they can't separate the sound of the image.
