Just out of curiosity, do you work for support for those two companies in your signature? Usually that is the case if an ICQ number goes with it. I'm just curious... becuase if you are new to the industry... that's some pretty fast ladder climbing.

WarChild 10-01-2009 02:06 PM

April 2002.

I'm their marketing manager. I'm fairly new to this industry, though I have a mainstream publishing background and there is some crossover to what I was doing prior. The bike courier stint was in the thick of the recession and I could not find a job for the life of me :Oh crap

Good workout though.

I see. You had the background already. That makes more sense... I was gonna say. I've been around for a while now and never can score those jobs. I guess I haven't tried hard enough either. But the times I have contacted different companies, they always want experience. That must have quite a workout for sure. Kept you in good shape I'm sure.

In 2000 I worked in my college dining hall and I had to scoop food on people's plates AND wear a hairnet.

I wish I had photos- but this was before the time when people carried around little digital cameras all the time. :)

I think that, no matter what job you do, there will be days when you have to work on something which, all things being equal, you wouldn't choose to do for fun. Days when my dream job feels a lot like a day job, I remind myself of one of the worst jobs I ever did. Reminds me to be grateful for what I have now.:

My friend Deborah and I did this job in DC which was supposed to be for a couple weeks, but we didn't last the whole contract. DC has a problem with gypsy moths from time to time. Our job was to drive to a set location with tanks of helium and a big red balloon, blow up the balloon, and keep it aloft for a set time period. The planes dropping pesticide knew where to dust by looking for the red balloons. We were unable to finish the contract because we both got weird respiratory problems during it. We thought maybe the helium tanks were leaking and asked for full pay. We thought we were so tough because we got it. Of course, they might have been concerned because they were not really paying enough for people to stand unprotected in a shower of POISON.

I did a bartending shift mostly for fun Halloween 2001, but I was backup and mostly drank and partied, til after the bar closed. Had a great time.

I went totally self employed mid 2000, but did bartend once a week in the daytime for the last month or so of 2k. It was mostly for fun, at the local dive bar that had an awesome juke box. The good ole days. :)

Just got new tires and smog on the new old beast. Need to finish cleaning it up and register it before the sticker expires. Hate DMV.
