Phatservers ... whats going on ?

We have more than a few accounts, a mixture of boxes and virtual accounts with them, and have been with them for a good 3 years. Ever since the change in ownership or whatever it was that happened problems have started. One of our servers has been down several times a week for months. Occasional downtimes for the virtual accounts too, and after checking with a few others they have seen it too. Support is still quick and the downtimes dont last long but still thats not the issue

Not wanting to bash them, because they have been a great host for a long time, but is this just bad luck on our part or are you seeing a drop in uptime since they changed to AmeriNOC?

area51 - BANNED FOR LIFE 10-08-2009 06:49 PM

I haven't noticed a change in downtime or support.

Barefootsies 10-08-2009 06:52 PM

I have noticed some changes as well.

However, it not like they went from MOJO to HostGator or something.

No downtime here.

I got no problems here either in fact, I got great help from them when my account got hacked a few days ago. They stopped the hacker dead in his tracks and restored my account + helped me out with some other stuff in a very limited time :)
I'm very happy with them.

Maybe your on a server with a malfunctioning harddrive, ask them to relocate your account because I'm not having any problems that you described

Sausage 10-08-2009 07:38 PM

Ok thanks for the feedback :)

Maybe these are just isolated cases. Definitely hope so, moving this much hosting would be a pain in the ass.

Jdoughs 10-08-2009 07:56 PM

I also have a couple accounts there, and both seem fine.

Jim_Gunn 10-08-2009 07:58 PM

The sites on my dedicated box are fine as far as I can tell.

Babaganoosh 10-08-2009 07:59 PM

No downtime or support issues. I just have a single virtual there but smooth sailing so far.

Lace 10-08-2009 08:02 PM

I've got a monitoring service on my box and I get emails all of the time about it going up and down. :( I've emailed and asked to have my stuff moved but no-go. Can't bitch too much though. It's only a small virtual box for some blogs.

I also got one of those Shared Virtual and I think its 4 users per box with them, if I see it go down I assume that one of the other users did something that crashed it. Like I've often done to the other users on mine..lol It always retarts quickly and never seems to have much issues.

Had an hours downtime last week other then that been ok, there were quick as per-usual to let me know what was wrong and how long it would be down.

bizasusual 10-08-2009 08:27 PM

We've definetely had similar issues

CyberHustler 10-08-2009 08:38 PM

Service has improved a lot for me. A lot less downtime lately. It was beginning to piss me off a couple months ago though and I almost went shopping for a new host... especially having to switch servers about 4 or 5 times in the past year and a half over the same damn issues. But things seem good now and their support response time is damn near instantaneous.

I'm on a virtual with them btw.

Sausage 10-08-2009 08:57 PM

Ah ok so its not just me and the few i have talked to.

Worth keeping an eye on then i think. :(

Sausage,

I would love to speak with you, or anyone else for that matter, directly about the problems you are having. Please feel free to hit me up on icq #56 05 48 95 or via support [at] phatservers . net and let me know exactly what your recent issues are and how we have fallen short in our service for you so I can get to the bottom of this. We have worked hard for nine years to give top notch managed service at affordable prices so we would really like to know what the issue is. I don't have any ICQ messages, Moose doesn't have any, there aren't any tickets to sales or our techs saying "hey, I need to talk to you, you guys suck lately," so it's really hard for us to help you out based on this thread. We take these claims very seriously and would love to get to the bottom of your issue.

For the record, again, there has been no change in ownership, we rebranded under a new name for many reasons, the Phatservers.net brand still exists, it is still the same ownership, same DC, more BW than before, hosting more clients than before we switched to AmeriNOC and growing weekly. While the migration to a new billing system and a new support system hasn't been without hiccups we know that these changes will lead to better overall service in the future.

Appreciate the offer mate, and if things don't improve will definitely contact you.

You guys have been great over the years, but just seemed to be falling apart these past months shortly after the change, hence me asking for other's feedback. We are running a largeish newbie and webmaster help project and currently you are one of the hosts we actually push on there, so have referred a lot of business your way. Then again we don't want to keep doing it if things aren't looking, as it reflects badly on us.

Can always be reached on icq 15567120 if you wanted to know more about the hosting.

Edit : Just saw you did post your icq up there and i missed it, I will throw you a msg if the problems continue. :)

Too many problems... I have closed my PS (virtual) account already. Been over a year with them.

erots 10-19-2009 08:23 AM

Yeah moved my sites last too last month. A lot of random downtime issues which all weren't really for that long time but still. What was really annoying though was that I had these issues where I couldn't access my domains for hours.. domain names just didn't resolve but everyone else who tried said they were OK.

So I really had no other choice than to just move because this issue was left unresolved. I made tickets and tried to work it out and I have to say that they really tried to help me but nothing really worked.

if others can reach your domains, but not you ...it is then a dns issue.
Could be your ISP not updating their cache or yourself being using a cache on your pc ( next time do from c: prompt : ipconfig /flushdns ( Roadrunner business is well know to keep their cache for ever .... ).

I do not see what the host can do to resolve that, not being a hosting issue .

That does not sound like a server issue. Sounds like a cache issue.
