I would agree that there is some addiction. There also is just the fucking basic factors built into our genetics. Like it or not we have the 4 (5) tastes that we do for a reason. Another good reason why for the most part we do not care for 1 of them until much older in life (bitter).
You already know yourself from your own culture. Many dishes hit all of the tastes in perfect chords often. See much addiction?
Now empty calories, HFCS, and then hiding the required sodium content in food with even more sugar and flavors. Sodium is just present so that it lasts longer and makes it cheaper to make.
Realistically anyone unless they have a serious issue should be able to eat all of the sugar, fat, protein, cholesterol, salt, you name it, that they want. Assuming they are preparing it themselves and not requiring some company to process the fuck out of it. Often a simple healthy "style" microwave dinner, has more salt in it than what the average person cooking would ever add to several dishes in a day or longer. Though you really can not taste it that much.

Leave the MD out of it, :1orglaugh there is so much standard in your face crap that makes MD seem like health food.
If anything MD should switch back to frying their fries in beef tallow - fuck the haters and honestly/statistically/scientifically real fat is better for you than the artificial fats. Hell as a double funny they made the fake fats to try to make regular fat less healthy, what they created was trans fats. Go figure. Now they are changing trans fats with new improved man made fats to remove the shit that was never in real fat.
