Just reported on the news

...300 dead thus far from the H1N1 flu out of 5,000 hospitalizations...and climbing. These are US numbers.

fatfoo 10-21-2009 06:38 AM

Wow... that is scary. Not only that, The H1N1 Virus is in Canada as well.

theking 10-21-2009 06:38 AM

I will point out that it is still a relative mild flu and only a very small percentage that have gotten it have required hospitalization. About one third of the deaths are under 25 down to very young children.

theking 10-21-2009 06:42 AM

This is October and the H1N1 is already at a higher level than the regular flu at its highest peak which is usually in January.

trevesty 10-21-2009 06:43 AM

I think I've got it. :s

Dirty Dane 10-21-2009 06:44 AM

In January over 1.000 people died of ordinary flu here. And our population is less than 6 mio. It was not in the news...

pornguy 10-21-2009 06:47 AM

They should try doing something to prevent this..

stickyfingerz 10-21-2009 07:12 AM

4,735 - As of October 11, there were 4,735 swine flu-related deaths reported worldwide to the World Health Organisation (WHO).

? 400,000 - Over the same period there have been around 400,000 confirmed cases of swine flu, the WHO states.

250,000-500,000 - These figures are the estimates of the amount of people who die each year from seasonal flu.

Jesus you people are sheep BAHHHHH!!!! :1orglaugh

theking 10-21-2009 07:15 AM

H1N1 has already killed more young children than previous years of regular flu...and climbing. Once again this is a US number.

16,000 nurses at 36 hospitals in california and nevada are about to strike over the lack of preparedness for the h1n1 flu.

http://www.calnurses.org/media-cente...lu-safety.html

anybody who compares flu deaths to h1n1 deaths simply doesn't understand what a pandemic is, the risks involved and the potential damage.

I am watching the Senate hearing about H1N1 and reporting what I consider to be pertinate facts about H1N1. It was stated that H1N1 has already killed more children this year than previous years of regular flu. It was stated that H1N1 is killing more younger people than regular flu. It is killing young healthy people...where as the regular flu kills the unhealthy and the elderly.

theking 10-21-2009 07:59 AM

There are major shortages of the vaccine for H1N1 and states are only getting a fraction of what is needed. It was stated that production "should" be increasing but do not know if and when demand will be met.

It is officially a pandemic at this point in time. There are around 200,000 hospitalizations with the regular flu every year and they are predicting that many or more this year with those contracting H1N1...and our hospitals will be overwhelmed if in fact around 400,000 need to be hospitalized.

theking 10-21-2009 08:20 AM

It was just stated that some hospitals will use tents for patients.

theking 10-21-2009 08:25 AM

There are five producers of the vaccine with only one being a US producer...the rest are out of country which we have to depend upon to supply us with the vaccine we need. That sucks big time.

How many of those children had some other ailments? Bet it doesn't mention anything about that on the news. The fact they're pushing this vaccine so hard should be a red flag. Just read whats in this flu vaccine shot. Who in the the fuck in their right mind would willingly put that shit inside them?

Yup just a little bit of mercury.. no worries there right? lol I admit I used to have jars of mercury saved up from old thermostats though lol. Father owns a heating and cooling biz and any old thermostats we pulled out of houses I would get the mercury out of and put it in baby food jars. Very neat stuff to play around with, but I don't want it injected into me lol

chaze 10-21-2009 10:46 AM

Where? I can't find it.

dyna mo 10-21-2009 11:01 AM

I continue to be amazed that people bring the mercury issue up. There have been six exhaustive studies (of a possible link between thimerosal and autism). ... They each came back with a definitive answer: No. Three other studies were done to see if thimerasol caused any signs of mercury poisoning. All three answered: No.

Well that's fine. That still doesn't mean I'll be rolling up my sleeve to be injected with it.:error

tigermtb 10-21-2009 12:10 PM

Had this conversation with my parents yesterday -- the flu is percentages of percentages.

First, you have to catch it.
Then you need to be bad enough to be hospitalized.
Then, you might be one of the ones who die.

So, from infection to death you're looking at what.. 1% chance of dying.

With that said, I'm not discounting the deaths by any means -- just saying odds are "you" will be fine.

well, that's fine too. i won't be getting the vaccine either, i've never gotten the flu vaccine in spite of being diabetic and having priority status to get the shot.

that being said, your earlier post was filled with disinformation. fact is,

1. the children who've died from h1n1 were deemed healthy children with no prior ailments.

2. the chemicals in the vaccine are not harmful in the quantity used.

regardless, do the pharmas stand to make big bucks from the vaccine? sure.

is WHO a co-conspirator in bed with big pharma? hardly. WHO is doing what it is supposed to do- stem a pandemic. it doesn't matter how many people die in car crashes, or influenza, or starvation. WHO is charged with making sure something like h1n1 doesn't get out of hand and that is simply what they are doing.

people's fear of government is causing confusion on the matter. in fact, people's fear in general.

After Shock Media 10-21-2009 02:21 PM

Same people that refuse the shot due to mercury also seem to fall into two other areas:
1. They will fight you tooth and nail on the environment and how we as man can not alter it. Such as mercury levels in fish that are of dangerous levels especially to preggo women.
2. Will gladly eat such fish in uncooked methods such as sushi. However refuse to allow the medical field to use a tiny ass amount. Although a few good rounds of sushi will put more in your system and yes it does not really leave.

Then sub class 3 - the government is always out to get you, they are the boogie man, the NWO, the central bank, secret society, whatever.

"I hope I get Swine Flu"

http://www.thebestpageintheuniverse....gi?u=swine_flu

http://www.thebestpageintheuniverse....gimme_flu4.gif

I just deleted my mom's number from my cell phone. That's because she called me in a panic after seeing a special on CNN about swine flu asking me what she should do. How about getting a clue, mom? Idiot.

You're all idiots. If you've spent more than a few minutes worrying about swine flu, you are an idiot. That's because it only takes a few minutes to look up the symptoms, mortality rate, and treatment to realize that it's no different from the common flu (which kills way more people and by extension is way more awesome), and going back to whatever it is you were doing, which was probably turning off CNN and canceling your cable subscription. In fact, worrying at all makes you an idiot. Why worry? Cowards worry and there is a 100% overlap between people who worry and people who regularly make cowardly decisions. That's why natural disasters kick so much ass. You never really know when they're going to hit, so you might as well let go and stop being such a scared pussy all the time. You'll cross the bridge of death when you get to it. Time to start taking risks, asshole! Quit your job. Quit answering your boss' calls during your time off. Go do something with your life. Jesus!

Which leads me to why swine flu is stupid. If I were to worry about anything?and I don't?swine flu would be pretty near the bottom of the list. Here's a list of things that are a higher priority of things to worry about:

Dying alone.
Not getting recognized for your genius.
Settling for a shitty job.
Getting married.
Just to be clear, not getting married isn't a problem, getting married is. Most people, due to fears of dying alone, will marry some jackass because they think nothing better will come along. They're usually right. But even if you find someone who isn't a total cock, marrying them will ruin everything because marriage is a false institution, and a waste of time and money. Cancel that big wedding party and buy a house, dipshits! Nobody wants to go to wedding parties. Besides, big gatherings lend themselves to communicable diseases. Holy shit that was a sweet transition. For those of you still not convinced that swine flu is bullshit, here's a list of symptoms for swine flu versus the regular flu:

http://www.thebestpageintheuniverse...._swine_flu.gif http://www.thebestpageintheuniverse....mptoms_flu.gif

See no difference? That's because there is no difference. Quit closing schools down every time someone gets swine flu, morons!

The problem isn't swine flu, but people talking about it (this article withstanding, because I'm the exception to every rule, that rule withstanding). Remember SARS? More bullshit. Fewer than 800 people died from it world wide. Yet the news networks prattled on about it for months. Now the slow news cycle lends itself to talking about swine flu ad nauseum even though there's already a vaccine for it. Oh, didn't know there was a vaccine? Yeah there has been a vaccine for it in the works almost since the beginning, rendering this non-issue even more irrelevant.

I will never take the swine flu vaccine because I already have it; it's called my immune system, and it's badass. I have never gotten sick in my life. My immune system is so strong that I have to get AIDS just to be normal. Your best defense against getting swine flu is to be me. Your second best defense is to have me cough in your face.

In fact, I'm going to put my money where my mouth is:

Swine Flu Challenge:

I'm holding a contest because I want to get swine flu just to prove how stupid it is. If I get it (unlikely), I will document my recovery on Youtube for the entire duration. Expect a short video. Here's what I'm willing to do:

Contest Rules:

One lucky person will get the opportunity to fly me out to where you live* for one night**, and you get to sneeze in my face.
Winner must provide a proof of having swine flu (signed doctor blood test or something along those lines).
Winner must not have any other bullshit diseases. I don't want your herpes, even though I can't get them.
* First class accomodations only.
** Winner must pay for at least one night of hotel accomodations (5 star or higher) unless you are a hot chick and want me to crash at your place. I will sleep in your bed and you will sleep on the couch. Winner must also agree to let me try on all their clothes and eat their food.
This contest is real. Email me if you have swine flu and are willing to fly me out to sneeze in my face. Don't email me unless you're serious and unless you have the money to fly me out first class. I'm totally serious about getting swine flu, but I have other shit to do too, so your window of opportunity is limited. You must fly me out between September 7, 2009 and September 21, 2009 because I'll be on book tour before then. If you miss your window of opportunity, too bad. Plan better next time and don't get sick unless I hold a contest. Make it happen. [/Quote]

Death rate extrapolations for USA for Flu: 63,729 per year, 5,310 per month, 1,225 per week, 174 per day, 7 per hour, 0 per minute, 0 per second. Note: this automatic extrapolation calculation uses the deaths statistic: 63,730 annual deaths for influenza and pneumonia (NVSR Sep 2001); estimated 20,000 deaths from flu (NIAID)

NaughtyVisions...there is a difference between this strain of H1N1...about one third of the deaths have been young...mostly healthy children...the other two thirds of the deaths have been...mostly healthy people under age 50...with about one third of those being in their 20's. Where as regular seasonal flu kills mostly unhealthy people of all ages...with the overwhelming majority of the deaths being among the elderly. This is what was reported to the Senate investigative committee...by the "experts"...this morning. In addition the regular flu peaks in January as past history shows and the H1N1 is already higher than the peak for regular flu and this is only October.

So yes there is a difference.

Thus far this is a relatively mild flu...and will remain so providing that it does not mutate...but it is at pandamic levels of people getting sick from it and the people dying from it is different than thoes that die from regular flu. H1N1 for reasons that are not understood is killing mostly healthy young children and mostly healthy people under fifty. Regular flu kills mostly unhealthy people with the majority being elderly.

Thus at this point that is the concern...as well as our hospitals being able to handle the 400,000 or so expected hospitalizations during this winters flu season.

theking,

My post, as indicated by the link at the top of it, was taken in its entirety from "The Best Page in the Universe." (maddox.xmission.com) For those unfamiliar with Maddox, he writes sarcastically on current events, usually ripping things a new asshole. Take for instance his article, "One thing PC owners can do that MAC owners can't.....shut the fuck up!" I just read his rant on the Swine Flu the other day, so when I saw this thread, it seemed only fitting to post Maddox's rant here. I guess the humor was missed...:(

Not a vaccine lover by any stretch.
I also still know about and remember other bugs from years before, yes they still are on the radar. Not like these just disappear. Often they either fit into what we deal with each year due to their stability, or we watch out for outbreaks and monitor them closely to prevent something very bad to happen.
Yes Sars, avian flu, west nile, and the rest are all paid attention to by government agencies, world agencies, local agencies, and even general people. I for one care.
