It's brilliant, but evil.....
What do you think is going to net the most money??? An awesome game with an extreme amount of competition that requires actual skill?
Or a useless point and click fantasy that can appeal to little kids, older adults, and everyone else without a life that just wants to prance around a fairy land?
Bottom line is the game is horrid.... but from a business standpoint it's great

WOW has actually been both of these types of game. It used to be a game where all the character classes were very different and all had their strengths and weaknesses. When the level cap was 60 if you wanted epic level gear you had to get in a raiding guild and raid the high level instances all the time. Even then you weren't promised your gear and it could take months just to get one good piece of gear. You had to know your character and how to best face creatures, bosses and other players with it. The bosses took real strategy and practice to kill.
The problem was most people didn't have that kind of time to commit to the game. The high level raids could easily take 6-8 hours to complete and you would run then a few times a week. It was a part time job. So people started getting to level 60 and then quitting the game. So when they expanded it they made getting that high level gear easier and there were now a few different ways you could go about getting it. When they put out the second expansion they not only made it easier still, but they made the raids short and able to be done with just about any group. So casual players could now do them and get epic gear.
they also changed the characters. It uses to be that only a few characters could stun another player, now just about all of them do. It used to be that only a few characters could do area effect damage, now most of them do. There are fewer and fewer differences between the character classes, especially the damage dealers.
It now takes a lot less skill and strategy to play. The old school players bitch, but many millions like the system because they can play periodically and still get to see all the content and get good stuff, but it is kind of mindless.
