Things you on eat or drink at Christmas

The first thing that comes to mind for me is Baileys. I swear I only ever drink it around the holidays but we have to have a bottle in the house for Christmas.

What are things that you only have over the Christmas holiday period?

Serial Pervert 12-10-2009 06:52 AM

I love the x-mas tender!

ShellyCrash 12-10-2009 06:59 AM

I can't really think of anything I drink liquor wise that changes. I make a holiday punch though on Xmas that only makes an appearance once a year.

On the food side Gingerbread for sure. I love it but I only make / eat it right around the holliday.

Eggnog and sausage balls. I don't know why we only make sausage balls at Christmas since it's about as easy as making toast, but that's the only time we do! Mulled wine too.

I make gingerbread but in cake form - covered with a sugar and lemon sauce. They served that when I was little in Underground Atlanta and I've loved it ever since - but only at Christmas.

Also apple pies for Thanksgiving and Christmas but that's because I'll only use fresh apples straight from the orchard and after Dec. until the fall they're almost impossible to get.

Most of the food we eat at Thanksgiving we eat at Christmas and never any other time: Turkey, dressing, green bean casserole, sweet potato casserole, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie.

Agent 488 12-10-2009 01:47 PM

an old traditional dish passed down for generations called "the placenta of christ."

SomeCreep 12-10-2009 01:54 PM

Honey baked ham. Yummy yummy for my tummy.

Twistys Tim 12-10-2009 02:00 PM

Usually have ham, scrambled eggs, bagels, and champagne for breakfast on xmas day.

Dinner is always Turkey, with all the fixings.

I like to celebrate Jesus' birthday in style, so I drink heavily all day long as well :thumbsup

Jennyfer 12-10-2009 02:53 PM

For us is all about Eggnog, fruit cake and Tamales

Years ago, I dated a guy who belonged to a big big Italian family. The first year I did Christmas Eve dinner with them, I was totally taken aback. I had honestly never seen this much seafood in one sitting that didn't involve a vegas buffet.
I was amazing and awesome. Love the cultural differences.

As for me, I really only eat cookies at Christmas. It is the only time I have the urge.

I usually grill an entire pig. Takes about 4 - 5 hours. I keep a bottle of Scotch by my elbow. When there is left than 1/4 left, it means the pig is done.

They look very tasty and are always tasty, so continue your tradition. However, they do have nothing to do with christmas as Gingerbread dates back to the 15th century. The first of figure-shaped gingerbread cookies appearing was in the court of Elizabeth I of England. She had the gingerbread figures made and presented in the likeness of some of her important guests.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gingerbread_man A good old british recipe!

Can anyone tell me a good meatloaf recipe for Natalie. She loves meat loaf! :thumbsup

I'm Italian...a lot of seafood, linguini w/clams, fried shrimps, squid, baked clams, king crabs, and lobsters. pasteries, cannolis, and kosher choccolates (jelly rings, haleva, marshmello twists)

I'm going to come out and say it: I LOVE Christmas and New Years. Best time of the year, especially in the Southern Hemisphere where the summer is just starting.

Those are great!

I baked SO much over the weekend but it was all just for one event. So, I am going to have to do it all over again shortly for general Christmas consumption.

Altwebdesign 12-14-2009 05:45 AM

dont think theres anything different, except party more than usual!

magpan 12-14-2009 06:05 AM

No shit, it's egg nog season again. Time to hit the supermarket for some Christmas cheer on that end. Also, a good, warmed cognac never hurts. :)

Cyber Fucker 12-14-2009 06:33 AM

Every Christmas I eat this traditional polish dish made by my grandma!

http://bi.gazeta.pl/im/7/3010/z3010187X.jpg

Its a red beetroot soup with mushroom dumplings called little ears, and we use Boletus edulis mushrooms for this purpose :pimp

Psylocybe 12-14-2009 06:58 AM

not much too different, just twice as much food and 4 times as much drink as I normally have;)

Sarah_Jayne 12-14-2009 08:53 AM

This is part of what I baked this weekend.

Cranberry shortbread:

Can't think of anything in the liqour dept I drink on Christmas that I don't otherwise. Usually bring 1-2 bottles of wine and a six pack to the party. So I guess I drink more wine than normal, but not by much?

fmltube 12-14-2009 11:42 AM

The thing I love every Christmas is a pumpkin roll with cream cheese icing filling and throwing a bunch of green beans in the crockpot with a pound of bacon and a stick of butter and letting it cook on low for about 36 hours. That and Honeybaked Ham is my entire Christmas meal.

I would love to find a great stuffing recipe though.

Marcus 12-14-2009 11:57 AM

Giada's Panettone bread pudding.
